Morning OCuk people.

I've let me machine fall to decay a once might(ish) power house receiving constant upgrades has become old and tired. Last thing I bought was a Crucial SSD and even that was ages ago. I'm also a little (lot) out of touch with the latest gear.

I currently have:

Q6600 @ 2.4ghz (was 3.4 but the motherboard failed and the one I had spare really doesn't oc well)
ATI 4870x2

Now I'm going to upgrade the lot but in two stages, I'm holding out for a Sandybridge Bundle from OCuk but is it worth buying a new graphics card now then the rest next month/month after. Up to this card I've always bought nVidia and I'm not 100% convinced with ATI cards so I think I'll go back, which card is going to be a decent upgrade over the 4870x2 ?

I don't need bleeding edge and don't really want to pay £400+.

Cheers.

I'd say to look at a 570
The ATI/AMD cards are good though and a 6950would be my preferred choice but if you want NVidia take a look at a 570, therye about 300 notes

if its just a gfx card and you want to go nvidia then 570 is going to be the one.....ocuk had there own brand 580 for £399 on xmas day and im sure they will again shortley so if you could stretch and wanted it its below the £400 stated.....from the way your talking though id go 570.....

Doesn't look like the 480 gives you tonnes of extra performance over a 4870x2. Might be worth sticking for another year I'd suggest. See what comes out next.

Check this comparison out:

You're right, and I'm in a similar quandry personally running 4890 CFs, trying to resist as long as possible, lol, however what those charts dont show is the fact the 480 will have much higher minimum frame rates which will result in it feeling a lot better than the actual numbers and also wont suffer from any of the multi gpu issues that apparently exist (Im yet to see any myself)

Thanks for the feedback, I might keep hold of the 4870x2 for the moment and change my CPU, Board and RAM to get a decent clock again.
