I've just run a couple of tests with HDTach to see how my H/drive is performing. In-between I've restarted my PC a couple of times and now my h/drive is making an odd sound in the form of a "click, click, click"..

It started by just making the sound when detecting devices on start-up where it would click twice but now its doing it through the xp load screen which held up my boot time by about 20-30 seconds with the "click, click etc"

Anyone had a similar experience with their Spinpoints? Its annoying because I've had it a couple of months and its been fine then tonight its started.

This things getting RMA'd,

Its probably the loudest drive I've had at the moment and tbh its p'sing me right off!!

Question
I have recently purchased a drive on the basis of its performance and low noise levels.
However, after a few days of use this drive has become excessively noisy, idle and especially seek modes can be constantly heard. In addition, the drives performance has decreased dramatically, and clicking sound can be heard at all times. I believe the drive is faulty and I would like to how I could get this drive repaired or replaced under the 3 year warranty offered by Samsung.

Answer
We can't diagnose how much your drive has a noise without analyze ourselves.
If you are in anxiety to make some errors from the noise, you should request the RMA service to your dealer. Your dealer has the RMA responsibility.

I have used Hutil and the drive was set to fast mode out the box. I have tried Quiet, middle and disabled aswell and see no difference between these modes. The utility finds no problems with the drive either.

I think I will wait till I can buy 2 raptors. Then get in touch with Samsung about rma.

In any case compared to previous drives, this samsung is not for me. Too loud....lol!!
