My test next Thursday, any tips?

accept the fact you'll most probably fail 1st time.

Loads of people do and it will be due to the nerves. Dont get dis-heartenned however, just get another one booked asap and get back on the horse so to speak.

If you're confident behind the wheel then providing you've learned all the manoveures etc you will be fine.

I passed first time, but I wasn't allowed to sit my test until I could say to my instructor that I was 100% confident that I won't fail.

Paid off, passed with 3 minors.

Only if you're rubbish.

Winners pass first time.

Way to motivate him

On my test I thought I failed when some stupid person pulled out in front of me and I had to do an impromptu emergency stop along with stalling within 5 minutes of that. I just thought "Christ, well thats me failed then, might as well just get the rest of it over with"; I just gave a massive grin to nobody inparticular, started the engine and pulled off. Because I thought I'd failed I just semed to chill more and drive as I had been doing with my instructor - turned out I passed first time

Moral of the story is just don'tworry about it. Chill and remember what you've learned

Great attitude to life! You should go in it expecting to pass. If you're expecting or already pre-disposed to the fact you'll fail, you aren't ready for the test yet.

the test isnt just a test of skill to determine if your skills are there or not. Its as much about nerves as it is the skill.

I failed my first one after indicating the wrong way at a roundabout by acccident. I immedately re-took my test again asap

Did i suddenly get better in the intervening 4 weeks, or was it merely a case of 2nd time i didnt make a mistake ?

THe latter of course. Out in the real world, people make mistakes all the time. You forget to indicate, you indicate the wrong way, you forgot to check your blindspot etc..

99 times out of 100 you can get away with these mistakes and it doesnt matter, we're all human after all so everybody makes little mistakes.

Its just that on a test you cant because every mistake is penalized.

You also spend most of the time treading on egg shells. I got a minor for hesitation for waiting at a set of parked cars. I didnt want to get a major for pulling out over the white line into oncomming traffic. In real life i'd just have pulled straight out and not given it a thought.

You dont drive on the test how you do in the real world.

The reverse parking maneuver may be legitimately substituted for a Russ Swift-esque J turn. Successful completion is an instant pass.

I'm not denying that at all... but I'm firmly of the belief that if you go into something with a bit of a negative attitude you're probably more likely to make a mistake. People who make mistakes and get flustered are those who are not confident and always have the excuse "well, I didn't think I'd pass anyway".

May as well not bother psyching yourself up much for that Job interview either, you probably won't get the first job you apply for. Works well for me if I'm competing against you and I'm there to win.

I just don't see why you'd put yourself forward for anything unless you were confident of success.

Will your test be the new modified one where you have to drive to a destination using road signs, such as drive to the train station?

I found chatting to the examiner helped, about what your doing, the bad driving of others etc... I passed first time with 2 minors. I went into the test confident to pass but knew something may happen which could make me fail. We are human after all.

Have you been on all the test routes? Best to get familiar with bus routes and times of operation for you test time.

Good luck!

I spoke to my examiner about my record collection on my second test (which I passed). He was a really nice bloke too. The first test I failed because I clipped the curb when doing the reverse left.

Joking aside earlier, all the best for your test. :)

maybe its just a personal thing then.

I was confident i had the skills to pass, and i'm not exactly a flustered sort of driver, but i was preparing myself for the fact i might make a mistake and need a 2nd try.
