Installed using that finstall script. However, at the time when the config was meant to come up, it didn't. Instead it said to basically run
Code:
./FaH -configonly
From each of the cpu directories to configure them. However, typing that in under CPU1 gives
Code:
./FaH: line 75: /home/lou/foldingathome/CPU1/FAH504-Linux.exe: No such file or directory
Presumably it's not happy with being referred to a "link to an executable".

backup fella...

assuming you're trying to run the SMP client you need to run finstall with an SMP flag otherwise it'll set you up with x number of standard clients

sorry I can't help you with how finstall works as I didn't use it, sounds like you might need to delete and start again though

No mention of an smp flag in Billy's guide. So where does this flag come in? At the start when running the script? Cheers :)

Also, is winehq down? :(

Tbh I would avoid the finstall script and do it manually for SMP. I had problems with it.

I used this quide:

1. download vmware from here http://www.vmware.com/download/server/

and get a serial number

2. download ubunto desktop from here http://www.ubuntu.com/products/GetUbuntu/download#currentrelease

make sure you download the correct version for your hardware, its a big download so make sure!!

you will need the 64bit version: 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD

this works with all AMD64 and new intel chips with 64bit instructions, make sure you enable virtulisation/64bit in the bios if there is a option.

burn the ISO to a CD.

3. Install VMWare, nice and easy windows installer :)

4. Load VMWare and create a new virtual machine (wizard), select "other" option and select "other 64bit" from the drop down.

select all of the default options, but make sure you select 2 processors

select the right amount of disk/memory for your machine (i currently install with 5gb of disk and 500mb ram

on the "network type" screen, i have been selecting "NAT" option, as it saves messing about with network settings, and just bridges your windows internet connection......

5. Put your previously burnt CD in the drive and "start virtual machine"

VMWare will start and hopefully boot off of the CD, you might need to restart the virtual machine again, so that it notices the cd.

once ubunto loads, try to surf the net, if that works you are ready to install.

6. Run the Ubunto installer.....i just pick all of the default settings, you are running within a virtual machine, so it wont mess with your windows install whatever you pick....superb!!!

install away and reboot the virtual machine on completition (not the whole machine!).....take out the cd

7. restart the virtual machine (should be a lot quick now its running off of a hard drive!), surf the net again, to check all is ok.

8. in the drop down menu at the top (Accessories), select "terminal", and type:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

and answer yes to it request for disk space.

9. INSTALL folding at home SMP from typing the following:

mkdir -p ~/folding/FAH
cd ~/folding/FAH
wget http://folding.stanford.edu/release/FAH_SMP_Linux.tgz
tar xzf FAH_SMP_Linux.tgz

GET IT RUNNING WITH:

./fah5

There are further instructions for creating a batch file and flags etc here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-SMP.html

i hope this helps....i have not used linux up until trying this, and i had it up and running in a couple of hours

1 TIP....ALT/CTRL PUTS THE MOUSE CONTROL BACK TO WINDOWS :)

i am getting 9minutes a frame on a AMD X2 4400.

lee

I've updated the wget bit so it doesn't try to get you the out of date client

did you download the 32-bit libraries like in step 8 of the guide above?

Now, seriously, I get 15 mins a frame on my 4200, so is it really worth all this fuss?

Can't work that out :(

System>Admin>Synaptic Package Manager.

Then go into it's Settings>Repositories and tick everything under the Ubuntu 6.10 tab. Click to close the Repositories window and then Reload.

In the Search option search for libwxgtk2 and check libwxgtk2.6-0 and libwxgtk2.6-dev and libwxgtk2.6-dbg and all dependencies (they should be checked by default IIRC). Then install them.

Then open a terminal and navigate to the /src in the Fahmon folder and type scons.

That should compile FahMon and leave you with a FahMon exe in the folder.

No sign of it in the /src folder inside the FahMon folder? It should be a diamond.

If you do find it you'll have to right-click it>Properties and tick the Allow executing as a program box before launching it.

What project is that with though?
I get 11 mins a frame for a p3025 on my [email protected] - works out to about 750PPD (which is a lot more than I've had recently with the nasty WUs)

I've also not bothered with FahMon or any monitoring apps so it wasn't that much messing around really

No not compiling anywhere. Bizarre. Will look into it tomorrow, I'm probably being an idiot :D Thanks for your help mate.

Getting 12mins/frame at stock. 716 point wu, so 860 ppd?

Gonna put her on 3ghz now and see how that changes things :D
