My turn for a linux thread

Instead of creating a new thread i will ask it here.

If i power off my machine (oh noes!) and i closed ubuntu properly, will it save where it is up to or will i loose everything i worked on?

Sorry if its been asked before/obvious.

It will restart at the start of the current frame.

Right

I've just installed it on x64 XP to see how it runs compared to a native install and it's taking about 2 mins extra per frame for each of the two 2605's I've got running (22mins vs 20mins). That's only a 10% hit.

How much RAM have yous allocated to VMware and to the Ubuntu virtual machine?

I've given VMware 1082mb to play with and allocated 784mb of it to Ubuntu. Ubuntu is using about 600mb atm with the two cores running.

I always have 1337 posts :D

I allocated 554mb of ram on my vm to ubuntu and 620ish to vm workstation, methinks i should bump up the memory then

Given it 1000MB in vmware. The peak is 859,000K (for this windows session, quite a few days, was almost certainly one of those big wus), currently 573,000K on a p2605 strangely enough.

Give it as much as poss, it won't use it all in my experience.

Post 1337, nice! :D
I missed mine :(

If you're running one SMP core then that's probably enough. These big 2605s are using about 200mb each.

I just tried to give mine more RAM as I think it had been swapping a fair bit and I ended up corrupting the fah5 executeable somehow

Downloaded a fresh one after I worked out it was either something to do with that or mpiexec and all ended up fine :)

I'm certainly learning - not sure if I'll go native though as I think the GPU+SMP gives me more output, just gotta make sure I only get p3025 though to leave some slack :p

Just had a taste of ubuntu's clock system, that now claims its 4am as of this post :p:rolleyes:
Windows wants to keep local time in the system clock. Almost every other system wants to keep UTC in system time then adjust for time zone/daylight savings time. This might be the source of your issue.

another one fooled!

crap
trying to install another copy of FAH smp on linux but when I run ./finstall smp it tells me that FAH is already installed and running and quits.

ideas how to close the service?

Has anybody tried to install Ubuntu on a C2D rig with a Ds3 and an X1950 Pro? I'm going to install the SMP client on one later today. I've had nothing but problems with a PD805 on a DS3 with an X800. I'm hoping the different graphics card will change my luck.
