Hey all,

some you know that I wrote off my car 4 weeks ago, and my friend who at the time was fine.

But 3 days later his back became quite severe and was signed off work by his doctor as he couldn't walk, now he is ok.

But wants to claim compensation, but he said he needs to write a formal letter to me for me to reply saying it's ok to go ahead and claim compensation, and that I need to write a letter to my insurance company.

Now I'm not comfortable with this

Firstly I'm not sure how much it involves me at all, and frankly I don't want to be involved, I just want to forget about the whole ordeal and carry on with life.

Now the main reason he wants whatever money he will get out of it is so it will contribute/pay for a project he wants to do on his car.

I doubt he will get very much, so imo he is just being selfish and is willing to claim compensation and make a fuss over lieing down for 3 weeks (which his work payed for anyway!) and just wants some extra cash.

So I don't want him to do it, I honestly don't know what it involves, and how much it involves me.

I just want to forget about it, and I've told him I'm not comfortable with it and he keeps going on "but it doesn't involve you" - when frankly it does, I had the accident, I'm trying to move on and he's making a fuss over nothing.

And I haven't even been payed out by the insurance company yet and he wants to go full steam ahead so he can get working on his flippin' car during the winter months.

What would you guys do?

A) Let him make the claim?
B) Tell him to bugger off and get on with it
C) I can't think of a C :p

Or would you guys do anything else?

Thanks for reading :)

I would tell him to call 1of the places that advertise on the TV and let them sort it if he is wanting to claim.

I would personaly ask him to not claim. As his time off was paid he has no need for compensation. I detest the whole claims culture and would advise anyone claiming just to milk as much money as poss to rethink.

A friend of mine wrote off his car a few years ago with three other people in it. One of the girls in the car went to claim compensation, but then stopped when she realised that the driver would be implicated. She didn't realise it was him who would have to compensate her, because the crash was his fault.

Ok, this guy was signed off and flat on his back for 3 weeks through NO FAULT of his own.

Any comp claim he makes, although it will be towards Phate it'll be paid by his insurance company. Comp claims are exactly the reason our insurance premiums are so high, milk it dammit! Insurance prices aren't going to go down.

Phate, you caused 3 weeks of pain and anguish towards your friend. Despite his 'intentions' with the money gained you should help him do it. Writing a letter isn't exactly digging up the past

It'd be no different if a random person wanted to claim compensation off of you.

I'd record the conversation about him wanting the money for a project on his car, let him claim, and post the recording to my insurance company. But then I hate cheapskate ******** expecting to get something for nowt.

But they will go UP if everyone claims for a small injury.

Does he actually realise that he's claiming of your policy, and that it will affect you come renewal time.

When i wrote my car off, like 3 years ago, i actively encourage my two mates to complain for there 'injuries'. I did't have to pay anything, that's what i pay insurance for. They didn't need me to write any letters just went to a no win, no fee place 10 months later they got the money and we all headed to Turkey for a week. The insurance could provide the insurance so much cheaper but prefer to screw us. So sod them.

BTW, i wouldnt write the letter because your insurance copamanies legal department will tell you not to and it may then default back to you

If the guy milks it, it will push up Phate's insurance prices up even more because he will have a claim for compensation against his name.
