so um yeah! a few may remember i started making a design a while ago.

A mate at uni mentioned he liked doing websites so i gave him my design and this has evolved:

www.psypher5.co.uk

thoughts? Tips? Rip it apart? It needs content etc on it but, as a base for now?

Nice layout i like the colours i think it needs more on the front page , maybe your current project of the month in its own section & maybe more gaming gfx to brighten it up a bit.

Maybe in your about list the main skills you have in bullet points

like the format of the Portfolio section (needs content to get an idea)

I like your contacts page very clever , how did you do that Gmail email form?

Mp4

aye, got a module for uni which is taking over my time at the moment, however between next week and sept (and the following year) ill add some stuff up :)

thinking of any "extras" a portfolio website needs, considering a blog roll but im umming and arring..

about the form: ive no idea! My mate (mike) did all the backend over my design (which im really thankfull of how its kept it exactly the same)

Could always add a rolling Twitter section?

Looking good :)

I really like the portfolio page :)

The Contact email, however, tried to get me to configure a mail application on my system - it should be a behind-the-scenes submit IMO.

mmm im getting varied result on the email form (ie seems to send, but i havent got an email! lol) and chrome opens my gmail (probably through an extension ive added to chrome) but adds the msg--: and sent from:-- into the main body.

I think i remember talking about a backend system with adding it to a mysql database so in effect would be all "behind the scenes"?

one thing i'll defo look into :)

Personally, I don't like the design.

The Psypher banner and the nav is nice, but the rest just doesn't fit for me, and a lot of it is oversized. This is just my opinion though.

i know what you mean, but then thats the "effect" i wanted.

with content in, (im thinking of a similar (thicker, full height) column effect for content within the portfolio page) the plan is to draw the user into the colour (im also thinking of monochrome/picked out colours with mouseover full colour) and a less clutterest/minimal easy design came through. I didint want nitty gritty pages of text/images. Just info and hard hitting big pictures, as thats all it needs to be (visual wow factors)

if that makes sense :D

Yep, I get that, but there's something about it that says there's a lot can be done with the idea. :)

For example, the rounded rectangle content area could have the light effects improved and the edges rounded a little more as they look jagged. Also, some of the text needs anti-aliased. :)

I think the logo/nav panel could use some work. It looks awkward because it's much wider than the content area and the corners aren't bevelled, where they are elsewhere. It also has 1024px minimum width, which is going to cause horizontal scrollbars on 1024x768 resolution. I'd just make the logo/nav the same width as the content area.

Mattus: logo/nav wider than the content area? Doesn't view that way from here (unless im misunderstanding you)

if its simpler could you crop the areas you mentioned and include a pic. (ill grasp your idea about 100x quicker if i can visualise it) :P

any thoughts on extra content?
Would extending the height of the page cause major concern? for instance the welcome page is split into "2" sections, if i were to make a "3" or "4" section page and add a blog feed/rolling twitter feed would it look out of place/too tall?
Calander section with project dates on (could do that for uni easily and have something to "show" for the work)

Trying to think of things that would update a lot, keep people coming back to check and not to just view and have nothing to look out for.

Also, any major bugs on the code side or anything that could be implemented? (ive no idea on this, but my mate mike is having a look over next week for any changes and for the anti aliasing etc etc)
