hi peeps

i have a western digital 250gb external usb 2.0 drive (WDXUL2500BBNE) and it seems to have died on me... when you press the power switch there is no response in the slightest, everything you do is how you'd imagine it to react if it simply wasnt plugged in at the mains...

now, i have had WD drives for a while and have always been very happy with them so i'm thinking that this is likely to just be the power cable? is this a relatively well founded assumption?

i'd just like advice really on where to go from here... i think the best option would be to get the drive out of the case and try it in a desktop but i can't see where to get inside it and dont want to damage the shell... getting a replacement and sending it back is not an option due to there being a hell of a lot of business data being stored on it, i simply am not willing to trust anyone with it.

so, advice please... easy to get a new cable to try? or advice on opening it up?

im guessing theres a warrenty issue with opening it up, can you not go to the place you bought it and ask for them to try another cable? i know with lacie that if you send a drive back its reformatted as part of the std repair so id guess thats pretty standerd with all the makes.

i bought it at an online shop, it could even have been ocuk but i dont know (everything is bought online at one place or another...)

dont suppose theres anyone living in staffordshire anywhere that'd lend me a cable for a test?
