My windows 8 experience... Sick of it..

So Windows 7 works fine on the mechanical drive but Windows 8 is borked on the SSD, This only points to one logical reason, Your SSD is shafted.

OK... own up, how many other readers Googled 'PEBCAK' to find out what it meant?

I know I had to for one... but now I know! :D

I have to say i've had a relatively similar experience, it hated Autocad and would crash randomly when opening drawings, the apps would relentlessly just stop and then never work again. It used to constantly throw up errors the would need repeated runs of;

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

And

chkdsk /scan / chkdsk /spotfix

It would constantly just black screen on boot and then several ms updates would not install. I was convinced it was hardware but could find nothing, it ran memtest over a weekend (its a work pc in the office). I bit the bullet and begrudgingly bought win7 (I did like 8) and its been faultless since November 2013.

Ok, then can you please explain why only a handful of people are having issues with win 8?

I've been using win 8 since RTM, and now using win 8.1. I've never had any issues with the OS, nor have many of the others.

My main rig is running win 8.1, has started to randomly going to a black screen, and PC freezes. I know its either a PSU or GFX hardware issue. I'm deffo not blaming win 8 because its only just started in the past 2 weeks.

I'm sorry but you can't draw a conclusion about a whole OS from your experiences due to faulty hardware.

If I had a penny for everytime I heard a user blame the OS for hardware issues I would be rich, end of the day over the decades its always been either drivers or hardware in general.

I personally have never seen an OS be the culprit and this includes ALL my Linux distros too.

You can bet they will be queuing up to blame Win9,10 etc some things never change with users mind sets, sad indeed.

I have also seen people blame the OS when it third party software that they have installed being the culprits. I have seen so many systems with dodgy malware installed its insane. Literally every member of my family has clicked on a pop-up telling them their computer is at risk of a virus.

i have installed w7 on the same hardware. same ssd. Ive had no issues with black screens or crashes as yet.
could it be due to the fact the my w8 was an upgrade rather than fresh install?
if w7 works like this then i will have to stick with it. just no point in putton w8 on now if this carries on working.

^ If you want Win 8 I would upgrade from the currently fine Win 7 and make it a completely fresh install to the same SSD.

We use PICNIC in the office, much easier to remember when abusing customers daft support calls :D

+1

I too was sceptical about updating to Windows 8.1, but glad I did. There is no placebo effect, it's genuinly quicker then Windows 7 on the same SSD. Once you get it going, you'll not be disappointed.

There is pretty much no chance this has been caused by the OS.

ok, can you update us on the following:

1 - SSD's firmware update?
2 - Memtest results?
3 - Windows 8 on mech drive? (at least you'll know it works)

I have had the ssd replaced now and have installed w8 again. I have had no issues so far whatsoever. It appears I had two faulty ssds which resulted in major problems. I hope I have no More problems.
