Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
There is an orange light on my router indicating a limited speed of 10mbps. How do I correct it so that my net runs at 100mpbs? My router is a Netgear DGN2000. I have already tried reseting it to factory settings and that has not worked, I have swapped ethernet cables, and I have checked for the latest drivers and to the best of my knowledge, they are up to date.

If you go to the device manager, then the properties on the network card you will see speed & duplex settings where you can set it to 100/1000mb

Hi hi,

The speed of your internet connection provided by your ISP and the speed of your home local area network are very different things.

When you plug in a lan cable, the connection will usually sync at the maximum possible transfer rate achievable by both devices. 10/100/1000 have been standards for some time now with 10 being heavily depreciated, though most low/mid end routers still dont support gigabit speeds. So firstly, how old is device you are connecting to?

Hi, thanks! I am not using a network card. I am using the ethernet port on my MOBO.

That is my router.

This review suggests that your router does not support Gigabit:

"...the absence of Gigabit Ethernet could be a serious problem for businesses..."

If you right click on the Atheros network card, choose properties and then go to the advanced tab you should see speed & duplex settings. Make sure that its not set to 10mb

That means that 10mbps is the max you can get with your current router. Between which devices are you transferring data that you want to be faster?

Well, the router is used between two computers. Both are wired, but my other computer runs at full speed of 100mbps. However, the internet on my other computer is noticibly slower! I heard that if the speed of the internet is reduced on one, it will slow down the other.

Ok looks like I did not read properly. Firstly 100Mbps = 12.5 MB/sec so that is not Gigabit. If you are getting 10Mbps, which the orange light is indicating that is really slow. I'll leave it for the more clever people to help resolve.

Edit: Just to clarify I was reading 10Mbps as 10MB/sec therefore my incorrect assumption.
