My Xbox Seems Way Too Loud

Hey everyone,
I've had my Xbox for a good 3 months now, and it's always seemed to to be louder than I thought it would be. A friend of mine has had the same Xbox for about 3 years now, and his one is a lot quieter, almost silent. Mine has a long whine, that spools up when you turn the console on, and it slows up and down sometimes, but generally it's constant. Has anyone got any suggestions? Cheers, Chris.

It's the curse of the 360, they vary from console to console. My 2nd one is much quieter than my original was.

Nothing you can do I'm afraid, I had the same problem with a few of my older 360's, used to drive round the bend, especially with the pitch of the fan changing constantly, well I went without a 360 for about a year and then picked up an Elite and it is better, still noisy but it keeps the same pitch which is less annoying, I've had around 10 360's in all (some sold on for profit, the rest RROD) and I'd say it's pot luck tbh, I've had noisy consoles and I've had tolerable consoles, I even had a practically silent one once although that didn't last very long, probably due to it having the quieter fans that are not as effective at dispelling the heat.

I will say something though, in all my years of purchasing electronics the 360 (IMO) has to be the most poorly made and unreliable electrical component I've ever purchased in my life, I've had better quality toys from a kinder surprise.

Hey everyone,
It really does sound like a hit and miss thing with these consoles. I've never heard of something being so unreliable, going on todays standards of technology. How can PS2's last 7 or 8 years without breaking, and these manage it in some cases a few months. It's beyond me. Not a good look for Microsoft in my opinion. Cheers, Chris.

Sounds like a noisy case fan. I returned one of mine to MS for a repair because of a noisy case fan. It ruined me up, couldn't watch a DVD without hearing it above the TV. Go back to the shop and complain about it. Get them to run one of their shop ones next to it and with any luck it'll be a quiet one and you go down the road of yours being faulty.

The 360 is meant to play DVD movies. If you can't hear the movie above the console then that's a fault.

They do differ a bit. I bought a brand new Premium system a while ago that had hella-loud whiney fans when sittling idle. Returned it on the same day and got a different one.

depends where it is ventilation wise, Ive still got my release one that's still going strong but Ive always had it out in the open so to speak and its nice and quiet, as soon as i put it in the tv stand the it gets red hot and very noisy. bit of a pain to have it on the floor with cables round the side, but works well
