myspace and layout questions

again poeple at uni are telling me I should get myspace, and seriously thinking about it this time due to learning programming and html online.

Basically only time Ive ever used myspace is to listen to bands, and notice that they can totally re-style myspace, such as changing the basic layouts and what not.
how easy is this todo?
can i somehow stop others stealing my layouts to use on their own myspace?

Advice: If you want to learn programming or HTML, write a program or a website. Making a layout for myspace won't teach you either properly.
