I have had webpages hang for a few seconds recently and the little blue mouse pointer circle running at the same time. Seems to be trying to connect, or check my status with Skype?

I don't have Skype, though I do have Windows 8, which I suspect is the culprit. I have even turned off messaging and it still happens.

Is there any way to get rid of it?

It isn't checking your status on skype, it's trying to load a little icon for those that have a skype ID in their profiles (if this is happening on other VB powered forums) and there are times when that part of the skype site does hang sometimes (this has nothing to do with the OS your using).

It's nothing to do with you but it's the Skype servers that are causing it so that i wouldn't worry about it if i was you.
