Hi folks,

Been having an issue on my system for the last couple of days with a USB device not recognised that I cannot identify within "Generic USB Hub (4 Ports) <---- not even sure what this is tbh?!?

All my USB peripherals are plugged in and working fine and all show up in the devices. I havent added or removed any usb devices from my system recently.

Also during the POST the system takes much longer than usual to complete the "Initializing USB Controllers" stage on the POST screen; used to take only a couple of seconds now its roughly 30 seconds!!!

Anyone had anything similar or know what causes this???

I have one of these (albeit slightly older model) in my system too but there is nothing plugged into it just now

Double click it, go to Details > Property: Hardware IDs.

Copy/paste the values here (right click > select all, right click > copy in the list).

is it slow to boot with all the usb stuff unplugged?

could try them one by one, then once your sure all your devices work, try them in different ports

Either part of your usb controller has died or the men card reader you pictured has malfunctioned, my first port of call would be to unplug it and see how it goes.

Show Nonpresent Devices

Windows keeps a Device Manager entry for every piece of hardware that's ever been recognized by the system, regardless of whether it is currently present in the machine or was even set up correctly in the first place. The "View Hidden Devices" option in Device Manager won't show you these "residual" drivers.

You can force it to show you everything by going to <My Computer> <Properties> <Advanced system settings> <Environment Variables> & adding a new system variable with the name:

DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
value of 1

Restart

Now opening Device Manager and choosing <View> <Show Hidden Devices> really will show you everything.

Any "residual" drivers can sometimes cause all kinds of weirdness and are best removed by right-clicking on their entry in the Device Manager and choosing "uninstall".
