Myths about Motors...

manufacturers have been known to do worse than not dipping the clutch to get the best 0-60 times.

Non production tires, mild engine tuning, taping up panel gaps, removing spoilers etc.. its all been done in an attempt to get the best times.

As well as doing it in a massively laden car so that it's slow and in a lower insurance group. This used to be done by the French with their hot hatches I seem to remember, particularly the gti-6 comes to mind.

It's when I put my foot flat against the pedal I find it annoying.

I thought that was the case, in which case I also don't like doing that. Just moving your heal away from the pedal and using your toe to accelerate and there is very little difference between the two.

I did try that but for some reason (probably being lanky) it feels really odd compared to top hinged pedals. It's probably just me lol.

- 0-60MPH manufacturer times are achieved without dipping the clutch

What are yours, and what are your thoughts on the above?

I heard in the pug306 they tested it with a (young) family of 4 for the 0-60 time due to it being the majority aimed market. A boot filled with the usual gubbins of prams etc too. Or at least the equivalent weight.
So in reality 0-60 with just the driver would be faster.

Just read back up the thread to found this.

Yup, parkers lists the 0-60 of the GTI-6 and the Rallye as 8.5 seconds.

EVO have it timed at 6.9 for the Rallye and 7.2 for the GTI.

A <1200kg car with nearly 170bhp doesn't take 8.5 to 60, anyone can see that!

an aftermarket "performance" filter will change your life and re arrange your face with unhuman levels of accelerative force.

FACT

I thought you could ?

Granted it would destroy your gearbox if you carried on doing it, but doing it was technically possible

didnt somebody do it on the top gear reasonably priced car ?

In my old Corsa you could easily get from 3rd to 4th without using the clutch if you did it at the right speed.

Now, whether that was mad skillz or just that the gearbox was knackered, I don't know.

Local motor factors shop tried to sell me an "performance" air filter for a Picasso, £49.95 as opposed to the £6.95 generic motaquip one .. guess which one I picked?

Only one of these statements is true..guess which is which..

a) It is a little known fact that after market BOV's improve a cars performance in direct relation to it's loudness.

b) It is a little known fact that after market BOV's improve a persons barry boy rating in direct relation to it's loudness.

Come on thats easy, any true car enthuiast knows that BOV's give more powerz. Just like sticking the free stickers you get in max power down the door gives you 10 bhp per sticker.

Of course you could, you can change gear by matching the revs in any car with a conventional manual gearbox. Whether clutchless shifting will improve your 0-60 time I'm not sure, if it were me it would definitely be a lot slower.
