Just got a Morduant-short MS309 sub from the 'bay and was wondering how i connect to amp (Yamaha RXV363)?

Amp has 2 RCA line in (and outs) and speaker like clamp inputs. The amp has a sub output but its a single RCA connector (black if it makes a differance).

Whats the best way of connecting the two together?

thx in advance

EDIT: is all i need an RCA Y cable?

Its usual for one of the Phono connectors to be mono, connect you amp to the sub via a single RCA and swap between the two inputs to see if there is any difference, i suspect it will work with either input.

Id give it a try without first as like i said one input should be mono anyway and you wont be gaining anything by connecting both up.

that was very strange. If i plug 1 RCA from AMP to sub it blows the fuse!

I then connected skybox through the sub and it worked absolutly fine (2 RCA in then RCA out to amp).

out of fuses now so i can't try anything till monday.

Was using the left when it blew the first fuse :(

I have that sub and use the line in L to sub out (1x RCA) on amp.

Blowing fuses is a common problem with early versions of this sub, unfortunately. Did the guy have good feedback?

yep, a really nice guy i picked it up from with good fedeback.

Will get some more fuses tomorrow and have a fiddle, it was working great with sky for a few mins so hopefully its just something small.

Strange that. Make sure you turn it on with the level right down and no signal, also don't try connecting it whilst it's switched on... I got a hell of a thump from it by touching the end of the RCA lead with the level right up!

Also the switch on the back is 3-way, off/auto/on, make sure it's on (fully down, green light) as auto can be a bit strange (mine likes to turn itself on and off every few seconds when on auto)

also is it worth trying a 3amp fuse, i have seen a post on Av forums about using a 13amp but it seems to big a 3amp may do it?

Should be fine, max power consumption is 250w which at mains voltage is ~1amp.

The fuses he used are also supplied by the manufacturer with the sub, it comes with a load of spare ones (bit suspect lol)

well i tried it, damn thing is making the whole room shake.

Will have to wait till my downstairs setup is ready i think :(

EDIT- After some fiddling i have got it acceptable but i think its too big for upstairs

Remember, the idea of a sub is to be discrete and only be heard when needed.
80% of the time you probably wont notice its there but when the banging starts you should be able to feel it :)

won an amp off the 'bay today for downstairs so tomorrow should hopefully be hearing the benefit of this :)

edit, this damn home cinema is addictive, originally was going to spend £200 upto £600 already
