Thought the time might be right for some N900 tips (plus Im a bit bored)

edit - I ran out of steam, will finish this some other time (anyone got any other stuff to add?)

Comprehensive beginners guide to the N900

Decent Apps

- Skype
- Haze (IM plugins - MSN, Yahoo, AIM etc)
- Flashlight - Use your camera LED as flashlight
- "Extra decoders support", download this to play ogg, flac, mkv files etc
- How to download iplayer programmes
- Appwatch - watch for new applications added to the App Manager
- Firefox (Self explanatory) personally I prefer the inbuilt browser..
- Transmission (Bittorrent client)
- ecoach - GPS tracker for sports.
- fMMS (for those missing MMS on the N900) - once installed you'll need configuration settings - here
- Zoutube - (Youtube application)
- France24 have ported his application for maemo 5 - Live and catchup

Games

- Angry Birds
- FreeCiv (Free civilization)
- ioquake
- Scummv (Old PC Games emulator)
- Airport
- Mastergear (Game Gear/Master system emulator) - Sonic!

Mods
- camkeyd - a half press of the camera button, (when camera cover is closed) brings up the multitasking menu. This has changed the way I use the N900 so much faster multitasking ie between browsing windows, plus you can have all browsing windows full screen.
- Headphoned - Unplugging the earphones automatically pauses the media player.
- FMBoost - Boosts the FM transmitter (pretty important as the default is quite weak)
- Change Your LED Settings - info here
- General info on how to mod your N900 (icons, startup video, sounds etc) : http://wiki.maemo.org/User:Cas07/Sandbox/Customise:N900

Wallpapers

- How to create loopable wallpapers

Ready Made Wallpapers (loopable and normal) here

All you do is transfer the x4 wallpapers and the .desktop file into the Images folder on the N900.

Tips

- GPS Problems? Try changing the GPS location server to "supl.google.com" in the GPS settings.
- Press Ctrl, Shift, "o" to activate the accelerometer

lol, legend! Next - 98se, 2000 and XP!!! I do love just how good the device is, mate of mine is running DVD's through an external DVD drive, with the host app that's available. I'm looking at getting a very small drive for travel use, anyone else done this?

True news of anything usually comes from the maemo forums first lol. Still damn impressive.

Hmm, i dunno how impressive it is. I did the same thing on my n95 (and a few other symbian devices) about a year ago; using pretty much the same method too.

Still, it's a nice little trick even if it is fairly useless ;)

I'm looking at getting xp to run next but it certainly can't be done using the same method so it's gonna take a while if it happens.

.

Right, put the n900 down. Go to the front door. This is 'outside', something that needs to happen more :p;)

i have only enjoyed nokia's as phones, my 1st symbian 6630 got me into symbian series, since then i had n70 --> n95--->n95-8gb--->n97---->n900(meamo is much better) its a great mini pc but i have not used it properly as i'm returning the simfree version and getting it free on contract so will use it with a sim card then lol

i just hope it has a call register app soon ( how do you check dial, recieved, missed calls?)
