N95 GPS Software

If anyone else is using Route66, are you able to use the symbiansigned site? Me and Alex had a bit of trouble with it last night, seems they have updated.

Anyone know what the battery life of the satnav is like without a car charger connected? Ive been messed around by the people I ordered my charger and have a 3 hour journey tomorrow, I think I'll try nokia maps, apparently i can get 7days navigation for £4.95 so I might as well test it out

Alright fella, just writing this on the phone now. Just to let you know that you should be ok with a 3 hour journey i think. I went from south wales to minehead which is about 150 miles last week , and still had some battery life left in it. Not much mind but a bit. All i would say is to make sure that you give it a good charge before hand.

N95 has a built in GPS receiver. TomTom here as well. On my O2 Orbit.

The built in reciever is, however, rubbish compared to a decent external solution.

I find it hit and miss to be honest. In the car yesterday it locked on from cold in about a minute, through the windscreen and all and was quite accurate.

This morning, it wouldn't lock on in my garden for about 5 minutes from warm.

Go figure?

Had a reasonably interesting experience with the nokia maps satnav, it was usefull at times and totally worthless at others. I'd never been to Leeds before and didnt have a clue where I was going so I put in the post code and house number and set off. Firstly it tried to take me on a route that would have taken about 2 hours extra even though I knew a quicker route from looking at an atlas and it seemed to be trying to completely ignore the motorway junction near my home in favour of a 20 mile trip down country roads to another junction.

Nearer to Leeds it did quite well took me straight to the general area i needed to be an then it fell apart, it kept telling me to turn into one way streets and do u-turns where there were no u-turn signs and traffic cameras. I ended up having to get someone to come and meet me so I could follow them back.

Next time I fired it up was in Manchester and it got me through the city and to the motorway alright but then started trying to take me on huge completely unneccessary diversions again, despite me literally having a straight line of reasonable quite motorway home it wanted to travel 80 miles on indirect and slow a roads, in the end I just turned it off because it was starting to distract me from driving.

In short, Nokia Maps is pretty much useless and I'll be looking at Tom Tom once it can use the inbuilt antenna.
