n95 unlock

Yer that was my first thoughts, there are quite a few people doing vodafone only unloks for the n95, I guess they are employees doing a bit of overtime so to speak lol, bet vodafone would be happy if they found out.

Hi Benj,

Vodafone will supply a Network Unlock Code (NUC) for you if you have an account with us either Contact or Pay As You Talk (PAYT).

If the phone's over 12months old the NUC will be free of charge, if it's under 12months there will be a charge of £19.99 (inc VAT). If you are a PAYT customer the £19.99 will need to be credited to your phone. Once the NUC has been issued the charge will be debited.

You would need to contact our customer services on 08700 700 191 or 191 from a Vodafone mobile. You will need to have the make/model of the phone and also the IMEI number available. The IMEI can be found by entering *#06# into your phone or it is also given in the battery compartment of the device.

If the IMEI number is kept on our system we can give you the NUC straight away. If we don't hold the details there is a timescale of 72hrs to retrieve it.

Hope this helps,

When the phone is unlocked does this mean it will update to the latest firmware?

As at the minute I can only upgrade to version 11 when i can see others upgaring to version 15

Cheers

EDIT - changing firmware still leaves on the operator specific Sim lock.

When you buy your N95 it has operator specific firmware on it and a code that links it to that operator. When you "debrand" your phone all you do is change the operator code to another one that will allow you to download generic firmware to your device. I changed my n95 8gb code from Vodafone to EURO1 and that allowed me to have v15 firmware.

Note - ensure you change your n95 8gb device to a n95 8gb code and not a normal n95.

Is this simple to do?
Do you need to set up the internet/wap connections yourself? Are these easy to find out? Im on Vodafone.

Just to confirm, the Phone came this morning and I successfully got it unlocked via an ebay trader (Just sent him the IMEI number, he confirmed he had the code, then paid, then recieved it via email). Im going to debrand the phone because all the vodafone stuff on there is annoying. Once im done does anyone have all the orange info I need to get the phone working with all orange features i.e wap e.t.c.

Thanks

It does it automatically.
De-branded Nokias, well my old old old 7610 and my N95-2 did, auto detects the network, and inputs the setting. And at worst, theres a settings wizard app installed as well, that again does it all for you when you've selected what network your on. :).
