N96 annoying backlight issue

The backlight on my N96 seems to randomly go off very quickly. All backlight sort of settings are set to maximum time, yet this can go off within seconds.

two specific non random times are when entering messages section and just after unlocking the phone! I literally enter the unlock code, it says its accepted then the light goes off, no button makes the light come back on, i need to close and reopen the slider!

Anyone else have this issue, or anyone suggest a setting that I cannot see that could be changed?

nope, not yet apparently, atleast unless i do the generic one instead of t-mob one

id certainly be tempted but obviously be aware of the no-warranty issues that come with doing so, but the original nokia firmwares are always better in my experiance.

yeah, i'll leave it for a little while. Its annoying but acceptable for now, would hope t-mob would get an update out soon

you're better off with generic software rather than network specific stuff. Tmob screwed up my n95 by flashing it with n95 8gb firmware. had to get a new phone from them. but upgraded to n96 at the same time. To be honest I think when i was using v30 software on my n95 using the tmob product code i only had v12 available!!!!

You could be waiting a while if you ask me. think the n96 is up to v12 firmware but I'd need to check that out first.

EDIT : also need to check if it can be done via nss or if its just pheonix that you can do the upgrade.

just because the tmob version was v12, doesnt mean it didnt include some of the things from all the standard updates, it could well have had some from v30 (never actually checked the updates tbh).

tmob flashing the wrong stuff? you got a shop to do it (or some service centre)? or did it yourself and the release was dodgy?

and yeah, i might be better off, but for the moment i would rather keep it in warranty ;]

I charged a battery at the wrong rating (used old charger with an adapter) and it screwed up my phone. took it to the shop cos I thought it was something a bit more serious that just flashing it myself cos I've done that plenty of times along with hacking my own phone with no adverse effects. wanted tmob (nokia service centre really) to recondition my battery as well but when it came back the note said it was updated with v20 of the n95 8gb software so it was their error. had to send it back a month later cos the camera screwed up cos of it. came back with a new phone cos of their mistake. not complaining though. probably going to sell it.
