n96 firmware

I've updated my firmware and it is currently upto date according to nokia update software - Version 12.043 (26.11.2008)

My brother also has an N96 and he has just updated his and his firmware version is now - Version 20 somthing and from March 2009.

Anyone know why this has happened?

Not sure, but i just upgraded mine to version 12.

Perhaps it depends on when he bought it?

Can depend on the network provider, if it's branded, I believe.
