What is the likely release date & price for the N96? Will it be quite expensive for all but the top contract plans like the N95 was when it first came out? I guess it'll be a long time until the N96 is widely available as a freebie.

New contract time you see and I'm planning. I quite like the functionality of the N95 but it's a bit ugly. The '96 looks very nice.

The only answer I can give is "soon". The manuals for it are already up on Nokia's website.

And yes, it's likely to be as expensive as the N95 was.

..except we dont get DVB-H in the UK and wont until 2011! The only advantage is the slightly upgraded OS, faster transfer rates and inbuilt memory with the option of using a microSD card in addition.

16GB on board plus expandable is the big deal and with sandisk launching 16GB micro sd in October it could be a pretty good music phone.

Good music phone?! Please. I tried using various phones as a replacement MP3 player and none of them were up to standard.

N96 will be free on £50+ contracts to start with. Anything less will mean a fee ranging from £100-499.

SIM free is for the people with more money then sense. £599 for a phone lol muppets

I should probably have written a disclaimer to my statement.. a "music" phone in my world is one that has a 3.5mm jack and a decent amount of storage.

Anything I can talk people into bundling a set of decent headphones and a high capacity memory card with basically.

I'm totally with you on this, I've had loads of W series SEs, I go through phones for fun so if I really really wanted a phone for music I would justify it to myself N95/N95 8GB/W960 etc, I even have an iPhone right now but none of them have come anywhere near upsetting my 80GB 5G iPod.

If the iPhone had a clickwheel.. now we'd be talking.. I can't see how people even get on with the iPod touch! :p

it's ready to be released but the n95 is still shifting so many units they are holding it back i understand

There are some situations where is makes sense to be a muppet.

for example i have a company mobile provided where i do not pay anything at all for any calls i make. Lets say I bought a phone for the said 599 notes and kept it for 18months (could this be the min contract you would be offered on £50/month to get the phone for free?)

so total cost for me for the phone sim free over 18 months is £599 with unlimited calls/texts

total cost over 18 months on a contract with limited call/text at £50/month is £900

suddenly you begin to realise potentialy who the muppet is dont you!!

;)

That said i wont be spending 599 notes on a nokia phone anytime soon...I'm a little tight like that.

Im dissapointed that they havent got a better camera on there, such as a 10MP for example. Hmph, i'll hold back on my upgrade and get one with voda when there out.

What can't you do with a 5mp phonecam that you can do with 10? Pixel count doesn't equal quality, especially if the sensor size stays the same. A 10mp sensor small enough to fit would probably be unrefined technology and thereby give poor quality results.
