N96..

950mAh battery, i hope to god it *had* a battery life... Do they not learn?

I suspect the N96 will be more efficient batterywise and have similar battery life to the N95 8Gb...however I find the N95 8gb acceptable in terms of battery but would benefit from more.

I do wish Nokia would stop making phones that look nice or are 'cool' on paper, and make one that actually works!

6230, where are you?!!!

In the past I would agree with you but the N95 8Gb really does work very well, its quick, very functional and looks cool;).

You can never have too much battery life, and i'm sure nokia understand this but just seem to ignore it. How about they offer the same phone without the 5mp camera, and DVB-h and maybe even GPS (i mean its all extranous, and GPS can be added very easily), take that space up with an uber battery and see which sells better then? I know what i'd rather have to live with...

That would be a 'dumbphone' tho, you'd be ripping out the guts of the N95, but I do see your point - an uber long lasting mobile would be handy. For me anyway Id rather the functions, the phone without a 5mp camera would be lame, also I love the GPS, I use it regularlly for my running and finding places in London, but thats just my wants I guess:). DVB-H is usless anyway, the UK dosnt have DVB-h (and wont until 2011!) and the rest of Europe is pretty much barren too (apart from Italy).

PS there are some nanotube batteries being developed, apparently ready to be released commercially in a couple of years - they have 10x the battery life of lithium ion!

Thats more of a upgrade on looks than anything else.

Why do Nokia's never have touch screens?
Having upgraded from a SE M600i to a N95 the one thing im really missing is the touch screen.
Keypad to qwerty and back to keypad is easier than living without touchscreen!

Nokia will be releasing touchscreen phone(s) this year:)

I wouldn't go as far as "dumbphone", it would still be symbian makes it as versatile as anything, and without GPS you can still buy a better bluetooth keyring gps and keep it out the phone (makes the phone smaller, or more room for battery). It's what i do, i've got one on my keyring and it just looks like a car keyfob plus its sirfstar III.

Thats a good idea, the keyfob thing.
Whats its battery life like and how do you use it?
(put keys on dashboard?).

If i'm out walking it works perfect in my pocket since its sirfstar, and if i'm in the car, it works fine from the ignition! So i don't use it really, just turn it on and off when needed and it seems to last at least 6-8 hours i guess (but i've not really tested it in one long go), and its not taking up space in a mobile phone when i'm not using it... My phone has everything else (well if you count a 2mp camera as OK!) but is as small as its gets :)

Am I the only one who actally likes the look of it?

I appreciate it looks a lot like the N81 but in my opinion, that's hardly a bad thing! :)

When will it be in the shops?

It will be officially announced tomorrow most likely with the N78 for release probably in April/May (so the rumours say).

So really, looking at the specs, the N96 is just a N95-2 with more memory and a TV tuner isnt it? :p.

When will Nokia start shipping their phones with SirfStarIII GPS chips anyway, the ones it uses at the moment are pants! :p.
