I've seen details of it on engadget, seems like a cross with a N81 and a N95. Looking at the photos, it doesn't seem to have the media buttons like the N95, instead it's got buttons to play N-Gage games.

Edit: Unless Nokia have some fancy oled buttons there instead of printed on the casing, and their functions change dependent on the app running at the time?

So really, looking at the specs, the N96 is just a N95-2 with more memory and a TV tuner isnt it? .

When will Nokia start shipping their phones with SirfStarIII GPS chips anyway, the ones it uses at the moment are pants! .

yep its lame - hardly a step forwards, the TV tuner doesnt even work in the UK (or 95% of Europe for that matter!) and it will be released in Q3 - oh dear! (Then again Nokia touchscreen device(s) will be released in H2, which is great news)

The GPS chips are good - they get a lock quickly and hold very well now. (the first firmware made the GPS carp admitedly)

The original N95 did look a bit naff though.
The N95-8Gb looks better than both imo though.

I emailed Orange and asked, was told it's still in the "testing" stage, and to expect it around summertime.

Unless they reject it like they did the N81.

While i do agree, the same thing was also said of the N95-8Gb vs the original.
Yet there has been a substantial difference between the two bar the 8Gb of storage.
Off the top of my head: better battery, more ram, 8gb flash memory, more optimised OS, bigger screen.

Now the N96, from what we've seen thus far, bar the new styling, looks to be mostly the same apart from the extra 8Gb.

Now what im wondering, will Nokia change enough about the N96, even behind the scenes, to make it worthy of that new N number?
Because the N95-8Gb is far enough detached from the original to warrent a new N number, but didnt get one?

The N96 will have the OS upgraded to S60 v3 FP2, which should have some funky new features. I believe it's technically impossible to do the upgrade via a firmware flash for the N95, so this will be a unique feature

I still like the look of the N95 8GB though.

Oh well, in about 5 months i'll have my contract up for renewal so i can choose then
