Nail in my tyre, replace or get fixed?

I had a nail in my new S3 a couple of weeks ago. 2 garages said it was too near the edge of the tread to fix and so I had to have a new tyre.
Cost £157. Still, it had been the first puncture for 25 years!

I thought most tyre places will always insist you change pairs of tyres if there is a reasonable difference in tyre wear or you are changing brands/model of tyre, how did you get into the situation of only having 1 well worn tyre?

because i went to the garage for a check up and they said 3 tyres were worn and they replaced them. the tyre they didnt replace was on the front which they moved to the back

Yay! I had a puncture fixed yesterday. I didn't notice it until Friday when I jacked the car up, and the rim was practically touching the ground at the NS rear. I checked the pressure and got a reading of 0 PSI :/

I don't know how long I'd been driving around like it, but it's a good job I noticed as I had a 100 mile trip ahead of me an hour later! Pumped it up and crossed my fingers. It dropped 10 pounds overnight, so I had to get it plugged on Saturday. Everywhere was closed apart from one garage who charged me 18 quid-odd to plug it. The tyre was only 40 quid itself (criminally cheap for a CTR, but they came on it when I bought the car)!
