Naivity to drink driving.

I seriously can't believe people sometimes... for instance...

I was walking home from a club this evening with people and heard some other people arguing near us. I glanced around and one of the guys spotted me and said "mate! tell him he can't drive!". Naturally i was interested about what was going on so i said "oh, why? has he been drinking" and the guy (who was the drunk guys friend) said "yeh he's had about 6 pints".

The guy then chime's in saying how he can drive. So i say "dude, you've had like 6 pints....no one can drive after that"

He says things like "mate, maybe you can't, but i can, i'm a good driver and can drive well, i'd never cause an accident and i only drive a few miles..."

I argue for a couple of minutes saying it doesn't matter if you're Lewis Hamilton, when you've drunk that much, no one will be a good driver...

So he comes back with "for god's sake, i've done it like 20 times before and never got caught (and turns to his mates and they all say "yeh, he's done it loads before")"

so i was like "FFS! do you not get it!! its not about if you get caught or not, its about the people you may kill!"

He replied with "why should i care?! I ain't killed anyone yet, haven't been caught, and i've done it loadsa times before!"

At this point i could have smacked the **** square in the mouth. It wasn't like he was drunken rambling. I could see him easily getting into a car and driving. And the fact he thought just because he'd done it before and never been caught, made him immune to the fact he could easily kill someone, which is the most important thing.

Do people really still think like this?!?! Because the thing that always makes my blood boil is if someone ever killed a member of my family....i seriously don't think i'd be able to contain myself (especially with an attitude like that)....

Sadly, as has been demonstrated to you, people do think like this. Did you report this?

Its a crazy situation.

Almost as crazy as a truckstop I goto frequently with a Bar in it - Most drivers staying in this truck stop stay for no more than 11 hours yet happily sink 6 - 10 pints (I've seen it done while I slowly sip my 1 pint) and then drive away in the small hours in their 44 tonners.....

Alas people don't think and once they have had a few, they then "think" that they can drive.

********!

Yeah me too, I hate the fact people are DEAD against drink driving. Like "Oh ive only had a half im not going to risk driving because I have no confidence in the law or my abilities to operate a car" or "No thanks, i'm driving I'll have that overpriced coke"

Theres a limit, If your under it drive however you want. If your on it decide if its worth it (Keep in mind you'd probably be sober by the time they get the proper reading at the station). If your above it and you drive you should die. Simple.

Unfortunately, i couldn't. There was nothing to report!

But he wasn't like "all over the place" drunk, just had far to many to be a safe driver. I'd have been happier if he had been proper drunk, then i could have put it down to just drunken rambling. But last year, when i was walking back from the same club i was almost hit at about 40mph by a drunk driver. I managed to literally dive out of the way and the driver plowed into a wall. He then reversed (and ripped off his entire bumper) and cained it off up the road with his radiator leaking coolant all over the road...the police came but i never found out what happened to that ****.

The thing that made me want to hit the guy tonight was, most was the comments he was coming out with, like the "i'm a really good driver", "i can handle my drink" and "i've done it so many times before and never been caught...".

His mates were a bit lame too. They were saying things like "mate, if you get caught, you'll get a two year ban! you can't have that!"

I wish i could have bitch-slapped him and told him that i didn't give a **** how many times he had been caught before, and i don't care how long a ban he gets. It's about the family he may have a head-on collision with and kill that i care about, not a stupid, ******* 12 month ban.

The thing that really brings it home for me is hearing actual coppers talking to me/people that i know about it. Saying about how they've had to literally scoop people off the road....go to relatives and tell them that 3 members of their family are dead....and that the guy who ran into them was a drunk driver....but he escaped with just cuts and bruises.

I seriously don't know what i'd do if that happened to me....

.

Shame you couldn't tipp off the rozzers somehow.

Alas, he (the pisshead) was talking through his drink - apparently, I think I can fly when I am hammered! - I am crap @ FSX never mind bird flight!:o:D

And his friends simply missed the bigger picture - its not him or his "ability to drive" its more the poor sod who he kills on his way home.

In this day & age where drink driving is supposedly a social no go area, I find it deeply depressing that his friends did not take his keys from him & put him in a taxi.

Says a lot about what true "friends" they really were.

There was something to report - it would have been quite easy to phone your local polices non-emergency number and tell them what happened, so they could be on the lookout for the car later.

Sorry, what?

I know several people that after drinking a half would probably fail a breath test, others I know who can drink a pint and pass. It's fairly dependant on body mass and metabolism. If people feel that they can't drive after A drink then it's commendable that they actually say this. If you're going for a night in the pub it's best to leave the car at home!

You won't fail a breath test after a half unless you've only just drunk it or washed your mouth out with ethanol afterwards. Even if you did fail the breath test you wouldn't fail the urine test and if you've only just drunk it they have to wait a certain period of time (30 minuites?) and test you again.

Whether you are fit to drive after drinking your half is a differant matter, but the law doesn't take this into account.

Personally i'll drink a pint of beer or two of the pee water like C2 (not often, if can only have one or two i'd rather have one of something i like :p). Provided i've had something to eat that doesn't affect me noticably and there's no way i'd fail a breath test or urine test.

Responsible drivers.. scum.

He won't stop until he's killed someone or injured himself.

It's how the world works, people don't think anything will happen to them until it hits them in the face.

Thats just my preference. Doesnt matter how little i drink. I refuse to ride my motorbike.

Shame i like to play it safe.....Maybe should start taking your advice iBot, always knowing by the time i get to the station after failing the first breath test i could be sober by the time they get me too the reading at the station.

Yep. I don't care if I can pass a test and get away with it. I'm not taking the risk to myself (particularly high in my car :p) and others (also particularly high, I imagine).

Same, if I'm driving then I'll only have soft drinks. I'd rather not risk injuring someone else due to drink when I'm behind the wheel.

As for the guy mentioned in the OP (and iBot to be honest) he's a tool, and a shame there was nothing that could actually be done about it really. It's probably a matter of time before he does have an accident, then he'll regret it, hopefully.

What do people call drink drink driving these days? Is it being over the limit or just driving after consuming any amount of alcohol.

The way I see it is that drink driving is having had any amount of alcohol to drink. Which can escalate to drunk driving depending on how much and how it effects them.
