Named Driver Accident

I had a little bump this morning in my Grandmother's car as a named driver on my Grandmother's policy. We've called her insurance company up and the liability department determined that from a legal standpoint it was my fault which is fine. I also have my own policy on my own car and I was just wondering when I need to inform my own insurance company of the accident.

I'm assuming I just tell them when my policy is up for renewal? Also, I'm slightly worried about losing my no claims bonus, I know this differs from insurer to insurer but would it be my grandmother who loses her no claims or would I lose all of mine when I come to renew my policy? Thanks in advance.

It would be your grandmothers NCB affected (presuming she doesn't have it protected).

You would have to inform you insurance that you've had an accident - but usually people wait until renewal time.

You tell your insurance company at renewal, shouldn't affect your no claims as you're not claiming on your own policy. They might up your premiums based on the report of the accident. If you claim on your grandmothers insurance for the accident then it will affect her no claims.

It's your Grandmother who loses her NCB since it's her policy the claim is being made against.

But you will have to declare the accident when you renew, your Gran only has too if she keeps you on the insurance.

I had a very similar experience when my ex had a mishap while driving my car.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll let my insurance company know that I've had an accident as a named driver on another policy. Also, I'm a bit thick so could someone just clear something up for me: as it's my grandmother's policy I haven't actually made a claim myself, but I have been involved in an accident, is that right?

Exactly, the question they ask is if you've had any accidents, non-fault or otherwise.

It isn't only about your policy. It's about your total experience as a driver of a motor vehicle.

Your NCB will be the same as your insurer will see they haven't paid anyone anything this year.
