Napster

I remember the old napster well before it got shut down. I had just had 512k cable broadband installed and a week later it died :(

Does the guy who created napster still have anything to do with the legit version now?

Nope I *think* he went on to help develop steam or something like....

Not sure though

Not paying to stream music! What a lot of crap, if they made a legit version where I could download and do as I wish with the music then yes I would pay for it. Sorry but i'll stick with other means untill I get something as good as the way I do it just now.

Can ayone actually confirm that the downloads can be transfered to an iPod?

Here is an extract from the Napster FAQ which implies that you can play them offline so its not just a streaming service.

Most other music services will charge you for every track and album you download. Napster allows you to play and download all the music you want from our vast catalogue and access to all our amazing features for a simple low monthly payment. There are other music services that claim to offer unlimited access to music but none of them come close to Napster in size of catalogue, range of features, recommendation tools, ability to transfer to mp3 players and playing all your music offline.

Napster subscription service lets you stream tracks, as well as downloading them. But when you download them, they are DRM protected so you can only use it on PlayForSure devices. The list of compatible devices on the Napster site is not very good, as it doesn't actually list all compatible devices.

I don't believe you can transfer DRMed tracks that aren't from iTunes onto Napster. http://www.napster.co.uk/using_napster/ipod_and_napster.html
