Just a quick question on NAS, if I buy the Synology DS112J with a 3TB WD Red drive and then at a later date want to update to something with more space say a Synology DS213J can I just plug the Hdd in or would it need a new setup installing?

Not sure which to buy at the moment as I only have 300Gb for a NAS but I have a feeling once I start using it I will want to stick everything on it and 3Tb may cover me for a while.

No you can't migrate from the single bay to the two bay to the best of my knowledge. Given the small price difference you would be better buying the DS213j first as last if budget allows and then adding a second drive at a later date if needed and expand the volume.

Ok thanks, may just do that, although one more question, if you buy the second Hdd later can you 'mirror' the 1st or do you have to setup the mirror when you 1st install the Hdds?

Yes when you stick the second in you can opt for Raid 1 (mirror), Raid 0 (pooled) or the Synology Hybrid Raid.
