Nas Box or Microserver

just wondering thinking of a nas...but came across a microserver.....only want to keep movies on it so people can access around the house...

I use a Microserver with WHS 2011 on it and i cant fault it.

It wakes my PCs up at night does there backups then shuts them back down once it has done it.

I also stream all my media from it!

Not much the main noise is the hdds. If you add bigger feet you wont even hear it

You could use FreeNAS or OpenFiler which are free, I'm going see how Windows fares.

ahhh so you can play with it a little....like a normal pc..well sort off....and they will let you share all your files around the house on a network so say laptops...ps3...xbox360 and media players ie asus oplay and wdtv air live will be able to access avi/mkv to play?

If you just want to plug it in, set it up and forget about it get a NAS.

If you don't mind/want to/enjoy playing around and maybe learning stuff get a server.

Just my POV :/

i dont mind messing about with things and learning....the via artigo...as yo usaid you can put the free programs on ....and can you log on through a web browser to change options or do you plug a monitor in to play with it?
Ahhh you can install windows on it aswell lovely lol.

If you google "VIA Artigo A2000" and can't find it you should probably get a NAS

I forgot about Windows Home Server, whilst I can't vouch for the installation method used here it seems to have worked.

now been advised on a buffalo link station live v2 by a friend amy ideas what thease are like...funny opened a can of worms with all the options lol
