Below is my proposed spec for my NAS box. It is going to hold 6 HDD's (no optical) and needs to be as quiet as possible.

How does this spec look to you? Any problematic components?

Is that Case, PSU and retail HSF going to be as quiet as it gets for reasonable money? Please make any adjustments and recommendations. I have gone for the corsair PSU as I know they are well built and I would prefer a single 12V rail since most of the dual rail PSU's seem to have a rail dedicated for graphics which in this case is on-board. I have gone for OCZ RAM because I have dealt with them before - great experience.

It will be running Fedora Core 10 to begin with as I will be using it as my main machine (having sold my workstation) for a few months then I will probably go for ubuntu or FreeNas for the RAID afterwards.

Thanks.

I dont know if linux supports it but if you are going for a nas tahts on 24/7 then you would be far better off buying a intel atom cpu/motherboard as they use so little power.

Im thinking of building a basic server, contemplating installing Ubuntu or Windows server 08 in core mode as its so light weight. Hoping the Atoms will be up to it.
