Just a relatively simple question, I have an old D-link dns-320 nas box, the seagate barracude 2tb i was runnign it up failed the other day so now im looking at a replacement.

I was looking at a pair of seagate 2tb nas drives or a pair of equivalent WD Red 2tb drives to run in raid (backup)

It occurs to me i could run 1 of each and then if 1 failed the other would save my data etc but is this a good idea? or should i stick to identicle drives?

Cheers

Hi guys. Just want to jump on this as hopefully will save starting another thread.

Thinking of venturing into NAS and am a complete newbie to it.

I don't need anything too serious, literally just an enclosure for my 3tb (currently in my PC) that stores all my Movies and TV shows. The idea being I don't need my PC fired up every time I want to watch something on either my TV or laptop.

I was looking at the DLink Share Centre which is a good bit cheaper than the competition but the reviews are decent at best.

Anyone have this and would it do the job for my basic TV streaming needs?

I have (just picked up) the DNS 320L. My first thoughts are its ok for money. Transfer speeds are not the best but are more than fine for streaming.

For the money, go for it.
