I've got a WD nas drive and works fine only problem is it wakes up all hours of the day and night, this is starting to annoy me to bits.
I've googled for ages and it seems to be a commen problem so thought I would just rid it and build my own.

Could anyone spec me the parts I would need,
apart from the actual harddrives as I'm goning to use at least 3 WD RED or if anyone could recommend something that is good enough.

Also what software would be best to use for it?
I stream most movies to a 50" tv in my front room via eithernet at present and the odd film to my iPad over the net when away.

Never made one before but I'm confident on building PCs just need an idea of how it's set up and what parts

HP microserver: you want to start at the end of this thread and work backwards.

Software would be something like Nas4Free, Synology, XPenology or OpenMediaVault. I use the last one, but they've all got pros and cons. I would suggest you set up a virtual machine and play with them to see what you like best.
