NAS for Plex on Xbox/TV?

[AssaTM]

Hi all, ive currently started backing up a lot of videos to my secondary hard drive on my PC, which I then use a Plex Media Server to broadcast to the Plex apps around my home, this is working great but of course I wont always have my main PC on, so im looking at a better solution

Could I basically back up all of my videos, music etc to a NAS, and Plex detects it on the network and sorts it? as of course the NAS itself wont be running a plex media server, so how will it know how to sort the videos etc, or am I over thinking it?

You can get Plex as a plug in for most NAS units these days so get a NAS to do everything and leave you free to switch off your main PC whenever you like.

Depending on your level of wanting to tinker, have a look at HP microservers running freenas if you like to tinker.

I was in the same situation. Got a cheap NAS (Thecus N2310) which has plex that I use just to stream movies to my TV/PC's. Works a treat.
