Hi

Im after a NAS to run as a plex server to my tv(via build in plex app) and possibly tab/phone. Im after a plug and play type that can stream 1080p content without issue.

Im not interested in building one and only need a couple of TB storage.

I currently have a plex server running on a rasberry pi2 but it cant handle higher bit rate stuff.

Have been looking at Synology but not sure which model i would need.

Thanks.

was hoping around £200, but if it is worth it i will pay higher.

How easy is it to set up as a plex server on these?

if i set up as NAS Wired to Asus RT-N66U Router then wifi to devices, would there be any issues?

Thanks.

ok, thanks for the info sounds easy then, we will probably only be streaming to one device at a time so wifi should be fine then.

No problem at all, feel free to message back here if you want any further help.

You have a good router so there is every chance you might be able to do a couple of 1080p streams at the same time and maybe even more than that.

A good quality 1080p stream will normally have a throughput around 3 MBps (Mega bytes per second) this includes video and audio and this would typically be a Blu Ray quality rip.

Given that your router has been benchmarked and can manage around 22 MBps (Mega bytes per second) from around 5 metres away, there is every chance you will be able to have two or possibly three high quality 1080p streams running at the same time assuming your receiving wireless equipment is capable of receiving data at that speed.

I hope this helps.

It does :) I just need to wait till payday now.

One last question, does it matter what format video is in? I have a mix of mkv and mp4, do you convert everything to one type or does it not matter?
