NAS Questions

Quick question guys. I want to use 2 existing drives which have data on them within a NAS. I know with the Ready NAS Duo you only have the option RAID 0/1/X however I would need to wipe my existing 2TB / 1TB drives. Ideally I just want to install both drives without RAID. Can anyone help?

On most Qnap and Synology NAS drives, you would need to format them even if you used a JBOD configuration. If you did not want to wipe the data then you could look at an external DAS device and attach it with USB or ESATA. These would allow you to plug the drives straight in without formatting.

Thanks Cyber. I'm afraid I want to be able to schedule usenet downloads and access the box remotely. I believe the ReadyNAS Duo is capable of this - guess I just need to buy some hard drives
