Was looking at :
Synology Disk Station DS410
With 4 x 2TB HDD costing about £601~

Gonna be using it to:
-back up all data on home network
-store all home movies, music etc to stream to ps3's including hd content
-websites for testing

Gonna be using RAID 10, just wondering if this is more than adacute or should I get DS211+ and split then up and x goes on one and y another. Since I'm looking at the 600~ mark could I get anything better other than a pc the only drawbacks for me is it isn't hot swappable and no usb3.0 but that's just minor.

Anyone got any input?

Yeah NAS boxes definitely seem expensive when you compare them to a small PC you can build :/

I've just recently got a DS211 and it's a great piece of kit. Very easy to get setup and running. I didn't want a noisy PC sitting around 24/7. A Synology NAS seems to have everything I need, with very low power consumption and spin down disks. The UI is very good and all the packages provide an excellent feature set. I could justify the extra for a 211+ as there isn't really any useful differences for me.

aye i looked at both options and kind of come to the same price with 8tb of storage(4backup) and a random drive for an os

Liked the look of the chenbro case tho, stil pondering other which to get/build only thing that puts me of a small pc is the fact i got to set it all up which isnt long =p but im lazy

FreeNAS takes significantly less time to set up than windows so it's a lot less effort than building your own PC. Which I'm sure you've done and takes next to no time at all :)
