Hey Guys

I've been looking into NAS devices lately with the intention of having a sort of central point to store files.

Ideally I'd like a NAS that has 2 drives in and that is capable of backing up one drive to the other (maybe on a schedule?). Is this possible? I know you can get NAS devices with verious levels of RAID but i dont wan't a constant mirror of the drive, but rather a backup to run every 2 days or so

Can anyone recommend any that might fit the bill? looking at around 1tb of useable space (2tb with the backup drive)

Thanks

You'll be able to do that with just about any of these NAS devices. They all run Linux so it's pretty simple if you have access, and with most of them you do officially or unofficially.

using Synology NAS for example.
build 2 volumes(1 volume per hdd), and point your backup folder to volume 2.
run the build in backup feature in Web UI, and choose local backup.
when choosing destination, click on the backup folder set up earlier which points to volume 2(you can do incrimental too).
More setting after that, but you can backup to the 2nd HDD if all is setup correctly.

try it out yourself using the live demo unit

Id go for a ReadyNAS Duo with disk mirroring enabled. None of the schedule issues. It writes to both disks at once, one fails it switches to the second.
