I'm a graphic designer working from home, but having a fairly substantial workshop built on the premises as i deal in signage/wrapping/vinyl work, and will be running 2 computers in the workshop as well as the one in my office.

I'm wanting to share files among all three, as i have A LOT of client files, that i refer back to for cuts, and print aswell as needing some kind of backup solution for it all?

i'm COMPLETELY new to NAS so any help ideas would be great!

Thanks a lot in advance

A Synology NAS is quite easy to setup and configure. For business use then I would recommend a 4-bay NAS connected to a quality UPS like an APC then backed up onto external storage like a large USB3 drive for example. Synology models include the 418play and 918+

Depending on the amount of data you have you could initially install 3 * 4TB drives and configure as Synology hybrid raid making 8TB useable space then connect an external 8TB USB3 drive and setup a scheduled backup to run say once a week which will then do an incremental backup of your data onto it.

Connect the APC UPS to the other spare USB port and setup the option to power off the NAS in the event of a power outage so you don't lose data etc.

This sounds great is the 418 play the way to go then you think?

That 418 play looks quite good, especially the raid part which is vital to you - you don't want to be running 4 disks and one dies and you loose everything.
Think it does online backup as well which is vital, all the redundancy and raid in the world aint worth nowt if your building burns down and you are left with a pile of metal and plastic blobs.
Something like 4x3Tb drives for 12Tb ish would do unless your really making some whopping files - still going to be lots of pounds though.

4x3TB would be 9TB usable space in SHR (raid5)

Based on your requirements, I'd go 4x4tb WDred. This would give you just under 12TB.

Plus a large 8 or 10tb drive connected via usb for backups. Or use Backblaze for backup. (Online)

a DS218 wouldnt be the way to go for that then would it?
