Not sure if the best place to ask this question

I’ve got an old end of life d-link DNS-320L with 2 hard drives in a standard setup

If I was to buy a new UniFi UNAS 2 to transfer the drives into; would they work with contents intact or would I need to format to set up from new?

When you say 'standard setup', are the drives mirroring each other or in a JBOD setup?

Just checked and they come up as standard

Creates two separate volumes (or one volume if only one hard drive is present). Each hard drive is its own volume.

From what I can gather, the d-link uses the older EXT3 file system for its internal drives. It's been harder to find for the UNAS2 but it seems like it may use BTRFS and isn't compatible with EXT3.

There does seem to be a data conversion method for EXT3 to BTRFS but even if you did this, slotting the drive into the UNAS2 and everything being peachy might be a gamble. The easiest solution would be to free up one of the drives and putting it into the UNAS2 and formatting it legitimately before then getting the data across and then adding the second drive once it's been freed up but it does depend on how full both drives are.
