NAS with Vista

OS is irrelevent, as the OS just communicates over the IP. Saying that DNS-323 just had firmware update for Vista, >2GB file problem. Don't know if NAS or Vista to blame but it's sorted now.

looked at this for my DNS-323,but help file mentions that it disables/no longer supports either ext 2 or 3 file system so as i could not remember what i am using :D i have left it at factory ,which i think was 1.01
never had a problem in either xp or vista with files over 4 gig

Latest fw disables EXT3, seems like it might have problems possibly data loss.
Flashed with 1.03...see fix log as latest fixes vista problem. Not all Vista PC's have problem.

yup :( just checked i formatted my 2 drives with ext 3 so no firmware update for me or i will lose all my data....yes??
thinking about it files of over 4gig would mean individual files and i was meaning folders, don`t think i have got any 4gig files all my vobs etc ;) ,i have split to 1 g chunks so no problem then for me?

If you have enough space elseware can't you copy the data from the NAS to your desktop, then flash firmware?

Flashing from 1.02 to 1.03 didn't require drive reformatting, but I would guess 1.01 to >1.02 will, don't want to risk it if you didn't copy the data across first.

got 2 x 500 giggers in the NAS,nearly full,so i am a bit wary about losing all the data.i do have enough space on a few other drives i `could` move it then recopy...desiscion time .
is there any other advantage with the new firmware?better transfer speed maybe?
as i am getting at most 35% file transfer from pc to NAS on gig lan and cat6 cable

I am waiting on SC101 software updates, to get it running on Vista. They say by end of 1st 1/2 2007, but who really knows. I can't afford to loose my data, so I am looking for an other NAS that works on Vista. That is what my question was aiming at.

So, is anyone using a NAS with Vista without problems?

Thanks,

Sync.

There are definately problems using Synology NAS products and Vista. Again, people are waiting for firmware updates, with no real idea when they'll come.

Fix log 1.03
1. Fixed 2 gig limitation for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista .
2. When the DNS-323 is powered off, scheduled downloads are erased.
3. Ability to update firmware without a drive being installed.
4. UPnP AV server & iTunes Server failed to refresh on some specific mp3 files with zipped information within the ID3 tag.

Fix log 1.02
1. Enhanced RAID 1 scheme
2. More accurate RAID capacity calculation
3. Remove ext3 file system support

I've flashed DNS twice, no problem.
