NASCAR - Chase For The Cup 2011

Not a bad stream either thanks again.

Properly fraught end, that!

Another win for Smoke then. Gotta feel for Bowyer, running out of fuel so close to home. But when you're not in the Chase, you can take risks like that. Puts Tony Stewart 8 points in the lead heading to Dover and the Monster Mile. I'll post up the standings once the result is official.

Finally watched this last night, quite happy to see Stewart win two in a row, looking the JJ is making it hard for himself as well, be interesting to see if he can claw it back and get the 6th or whether it's finally over (and all the Americans can stop the moaning, or maybe that's wishful thinking :P)

No, I tend not to be a fan of drivers who wreck people for no good reason and risk the lives of drivers and spectators doing it :)

Not sure if it's a record at this place, but first caution on Lap 5. We're off and away again now.

Funny how so many people were writing off JJ's chances of a sixth title on the bounce....as I type this, he's leading the race and leading the points standings. That team knows how to run the Chase.

Can you explain to me what they mean when certain drivers love certain tracks. And how can one track be better for certain teams than others. I mean isnt an oval just an oval

as far as i understand it:

Each track isn't exactly the same shape. They have broadly the same profile, but the actual angle of the bank and the angle of the corner varies from track to track. The width of the circuit varies a certain amount as well. With some corners being tighter than others.

Granted it isn't indycar, but there are small variations.

Yeah, I can kinda understand thinking it as his start to the chase wasn't exactly impressive, but the guy is too good, especially at the chase format, he didn't quite manage to lead the standings at the end though, but not far off :)

I'd quite like a sixth for him, just cause it really would wind up a whole load of rednecks :p

My knowledge of the tracks comes from iRacing, so whilst not 100% perfect they're laser scanned and pretty damn good, and it's far far more than just 'small variations', the tracks are very different generally,

Of the first 4 tracks possible you could possibly say Kansas and Chicago are only small differences, but Loudon and Dover are both very different, going forward we've got Talladega (flat out draft packs/pairs), Martinsville (tiny little short track), Texas which is another 'cookie-cutter', Pheonix (tri-oval, ish, unique and awesome) and Homestead which again is a bit different.

That's the sort of thinking that gets drivers who have done most of their racing in Europe into serious trouble the first time they get onto an oval :)

Different racing surfaces, different banking, different corner radii, different track lengths, different pit entry points....there's a lot that can change from track to track. Yes, a lot of the 1.5 mile speedways (the 'cookie-cutter' tracks) are similar to each other. But there are some real oddballs as well.

Roll on Charlotte. This Chase is coming together nicely!
