I'm pulling for tha Old Spice driver. He has won so many times on this track it's about time he won the big one.

Like the guys in the booth just said, he's got a bit of Earnhardt Snr about him with this track. He can drive it (though Tony has said on many an occasion that he doesn't really like it), and drive it well. He just seems to never catch a break in the 500.

Some of those guys desperately need a yellow flag right now. Stopping under the green flag is going to catch someone right out.

It does not look like a restrictor plate race. They are really spread out. It is more like a Charlotte race.

Looks a little more like Daytona right now thanks to the yellow flag and restart.

Jeff "Big Daddy" Gordon leads! :D Kyle Busch doesn't! :D:D

Good God.....how the hell did Junior hang on to that car there?

48 with a tyre problem :D

It could have been a lot worse if Andretti did not have a problem at the same time. He would have been a lap or two behind.

Might go back to green soon. Turned the stream off for most of the red flag.

Another hole appeared, a 'competition caution' called while they check it out.

What an embarrassment.

EDIT: Another red flag.

Apart from the track falling apart that was an interesting race, before the first red flag it was fairly odd for a daytona race, but after the red flags it was far more like the usual madness :)

Great last two laps or so from Jr, 10th to 2nd, was hoping he'd get a decent tow and be able to get alongside McMurray over the line but hey, Harvick's move to get past Truex was rather good as well, overall I enjoyed that, except for the 2+ hours under red flag :p

One more lap, and the race would've gone to Junior. Or there would have been a truly enormous wreck. Or both.

Still, great driving from Jamie McMurray to win! And an honourable mention to Kevin Harvick who provided some of the more spectacular moments late on :D

Really pleased for McMurray. He seems to be one of the nice guys. I don't think I have ever seen so many drivers from other teams seem so happy for the winner of a race and McMurray got quite emotional at the end. The last 20 laps or so were quite exciting and made the wait for the race to go green worthwhile. Only 1 bonehead move all night (24 bump drafing/spinning Kahne in turn 2) which is unusual for Daytona but I am sure retribution will not be long in coming.

Elliot Sadler looks like he may step into Michael Waltrips shoes and become the mobile chicane now Waltrip has decided to take a back seat. The other drivers did well to take evasive action a couple of times to pevent a major accident.

Looking forward to California next where the result may give us more of an idea who has a good car and who has work to do. Daytona usually has very little bearing on the championship as the racing being so different to the rest.

What a race!!!..some pretty bad crashes and the track coming apart lol.

Damn it was really hoping that Earnhardt would have won it...he gets so close but yet so far...was hoping that McMurray would have spun out and let Earnhardt take the win.

But anyhow better luck next time Earnhardt...again got my money on Johnson to win the championship again this yr.

Agree :)

Earnhardt's car was a bitch to turn. Did anyone see the in car shots of Earnhardt pulling the steering wheel just to get the car to turn

Roll on the next race.

Yeh seems like even though he switched to Hendricks a few yrs ago...hes not getting a car thats good enough to win races...one race he won a couple of yrs ago was pretty good...he coasted to the finish line when he was out of fuel:eek::p

But just wish he would be a bit more competitive...i like Jimmie Johnson but i do like Earnhardt Jr a lot as well.

Whaaaaaaaaa? You're looking forward to the biannual Fontana bore-fest?

Actually.....despite past experience telling me that they won't get a particularly good show there, I'm looking forward to it as well. I think the news that the dreaded COT wing is getting replaced with an old style spoiler, along with the NASCAR hierarchy starting to make other decent decisions again (loosening the bump-draft rule, the restrictor plate change for Daytona and 'dega, the aero tweaks made to the COT to keep it on the ground in the big wrecks, etc), has re-energised my affection for the sport :)

That was the last time he won a race. It was a crew chief decision to stay out and not refuel but guess who got the blame for junior not winning anymore races after - The crew chief. After that his step mother (team owner) got the blame for his poor results and he left to go to Hendricks which is by far the best team in racing. Again the crew chief got the blame for yet more poor results and once again got replaced but results still stay the same. There has only been one common denominator through all this and that is the driver. This season surely is last chance saloon for him if he does not get his act together.

Only really looking forward to it as it may give a more accurate reflection as to who is going to competitive as far as winning the chamionship. Daytona is more of a one off race and usually throws up a shock result and you can't really tell who is fast and who is slow.
