NAT!

Hi all,

I have two 360's connected wirelessley to my Belkin F7D4401 router.

I can never get both 360's NAT set to open, usually mine I set to open by putting it's IP into the DMZ. I use a static IP for my 360.

The other 360 is just on DHCP.

Why, intermittently is my 360's NAT going to either strict or Moderate? What else can I do to stop this? I usually have to reboot the router, or put my 360's IP back to DHCP but then it will pick up a different IP to that which is in the DMZ.

Any tips?

I have the same problem with my O2 Wireless Box II. I just restart the router when the NAT is strict.

Tried all the guides online for port fowarding etc, but nothing seems to work!

The annoying thing is, the 360 appears to prefer being in DHCP so I reserve an IP on my router. Restart the 360 and it picks up another address :/

This is what got me thinking is the wireless dongle's MAC different to the Ethernet of the 360 but apparently not? So why the hell won't the 360 pick up the reserved IP!

Er... the ethernet and wifi will have different MAC codes.

You can't forward the same port to two different IP addresses.

Simply not being a fan of a specific company will not solve this issue.

Used to use a lot of Belkin stuff, they're generally rubbish.

I have a spare Netgear router (cable, not adsl), which i will donate to you due to you running the FIFA leagues over the last x years. If you want to give that a go?

Email in trust.

Just picked up your trust message Andy; I'll have a rumage about and I come across an ADSL one I'll package it off to you.

Thanks buddy. Very much appreciated.

In the meantime, is there anyway to tell if a port has been forwarded correctly?

I guess if you want to test access, you could Telnet and see if you can access. That'll test if it's open.

As for forwarding, you could check http://portforward.com/ and then port checker perhaps? Not sure if it works and I'm not inclined to test it whilst at work! :)

What Zid said is correct. Assuming the 360's are attempting to use the same ports as each other only one of them is able to have the port forwarded at a time.

If the 360 on the DMZ is losing its direct connection try turning upnp off on the router and see if it still happens.

The only way round the issue is to get extra ip addresses from your isp so both consoles can have an external ip address, meaning no need to mess about forwarding ports.

get that all the time. I always talk to 02 on the chat to get them to permanently open the NAT but they always fob me off
