Ok, so my daughter has dropped her Sammy NC10 and fractured the screen. What would be the best way of having the screen replaced? I'm not familiar with PC repair shops around Sheffield/Barnsley and I live on the other side of the Pennines.

Any advice welcome.

Hmmm - for the money and aggro I'm not sure it would be worth it. If you have accidental damage on your household insurance I'd probably go down that route to be honest. I know to fix it and source the parts yourself costs around £80 - £90. With labour on top if you get a repair centre to do it you would be looking at double that amount.

Otherwise check out http://www.sammywiki.com/wiki/Samsung_NC10_FAQ which should give you some ideas (part numbers and costs for replacement bits).

Daughter has been quoted £130 to have the screen replaced. I've suggested the house insurance route, but she's not too keen on her Mother finding out.

The screens are £74 from ebay and are dead easy to change. Simply remove the screw covers on the screen bezel, undo screws, gently pull off the bezel, undo screws on the panel, ease forward, disconnect the cable, and refit the new one, job done!
