just wondering, im about to order to 80gb samsung spinpoints and going to setup as raid 0. my mobo is an evga 680i which supports native command queuing so is it possible to get quicker performance in raid than if i didnt have this.
Desktop systems (with single and RAID0) HDDs generally perform better with NCQ disabled, NCQ is really only an asset for Servers, that will have many read/write operations occurring at any one time.
ok, another quick question. ive got 2 old samsung drives. ones a samsung sp1614c sw100-30 and the other is a samsung sp1614c sw100-34. i know that the drives need to be the same for raid 0, but do these count, im not sure
There's no need for the drives to be exactly identical although it is recommended. Dissimilar drives may give less than optimal performance if the quicker of the two has to sit idle momentarily while the controller waits for the slower one to send its parts of the file.
The drives you have though are sufficiently close that you'll not see any problems.
