ND Filters

So basically are these things only useful if you have a relatively flat horizon in view? If you have a tree, hill or building or something sticking up above the skyline then this is just going to get darkened too? Was kinda tempted but seem very expensive for what they are, and the majority of the shots I take always have something sticking up above the skyline.

I made a couple of test shots to check for colour cast with my new cokin z-pro's that came the other day.

All for photos where in aperture priority with matrix metering and white balance set to cloudy.

You can see that there's a slightly purple cast to the ND grad, a blue cast to the ND8 and when combined you get sever purple to the top and some blue below. Looks like the ND grad or ND8 is ok for use on their own but not together.

Thanks for all the replies mate,

So, I think I have made a decision.

Cokin Wide Angle Filter Holder - £10
Cokin 67mm adapter ring - £10
Hi-Tech Hard Edge Grad - £60

So £80 all in. Can anyone confirm 100% if the Hi-Techs will work with the Cokin 'wide angle' adapter? I am presuming its the same as the normal one, just not quite as deep. Lastly, I am torn between the soft edge grads and the hard edge grads. They are £60 for a set of three. Any thoughts? :)
