ND Filters

No problems with the Cokin filters in my experience. Anyway, we are not shooting film any more, colour cast can be removed. Sure the Lee system is the best, but it is seriously expensive. As you are a beginner, my advice would be to buy the cheaper kit and put the money saved into a new lens piggy bank.

Yeah things can always be tweaked but it's generally best to get it as close to 'right' as you can to begin with so you don't need to compromise the image later with changes.

I've never tried any other filter but the Camdiox seemed to get good reviews (doesn't lose sharpness and doesn't introduce any significant colour cast) so I tried it.

Fairly long thread here about it - https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/excellent-cheap-10-stop.520613/

I may have a cheap (cost £11) 100MM filter holder you can have. I think it came with a 77mm adapter ring. It's not great, in fact it's terrible, but if I can find it, it'll be free. I was going to give it to someone else, but I can't remember if I ever did.

That, coupled with some £18 KOOD filters would be a good start, to see if you like it. (Imho)

Camdiox thread screw filter all day long as linked above.
I've got 3, ND1000, ND8 & ND4 and they are every single bit as good as the £100+ B&W alternatives.
There are plenty of horror stories regarding cheaper filters and plenty are true, however don't include Camdiox in there, they are superb for the money.

I Can definately back up this statement.

That's very generous of you - I have a suspicion that I may receive a cheap filter to play around with for Christmas, so I will wait and see if I get one before I take you up on that. Thanks very much for the offer though!

Update from me. As suspected, got a cheap filter for Christmas. It's actually this one: http://srb-photographic.co.uk/77mm-nd1000-filter-6572-p.asp

Took it out yesterday for a quick play, and was quite impressed. Colours seemed slightly warm but nothing too noticeable, and there was quite a lot of vignetting at the wide end (10-22mm lens). But both of those can be fixed in post, so I'm pretty happy with that so far.

My first ND filter shots!
