NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

ch-ch-ch-ch-ch :p They give you a decent plated LSD in these then?

Ford offer two types of LSD, the one in mine which I have no idea what it is but better than open diff for sure, seems to work very similar to E46 M3 LSD and they offer a torsen LSD but only US cars have that with shorter 3.73 gearing.

Seems to work fine and I prefer 3.55 gears as even those are too short for the power/torque this car has, 3.31 would be best to be honest, especially once running bigger power.

Surely you mean a heavy and woefully inefficient engine.

The only reason anyone wants the V8 is because they want people to give attention to their excessively loud car.

End of the day the RS more practical and the faster road car. Not to mention being cheaper to buy and more economical to run.

Thats what american V8's are all about, but I am getting better than expected, 16mpg so far overall and seems to be improving.

Of course that is the reason people want a V8, but its not because they are loud it is because they sound 10x better than any 4 pot, factual, just like a V6 sounds better. Focus RS I see flying around have far louder exhaust on them than Mustangs, but they just seems to make absolutely disgusting noise followed by pops, explosions and bangs, sound absolutely crap.

The RS at the end of the day is more practical than most cars and definetely pretty much faster than anything else on the road, just like the old Evo's were, but I've being there and done the 4-pot turbo AWD thing in arguable the better car than the RS with the EVO X FQ-360 and they have their place.

Some people get Mustangs, V8's and some people do not, those who get it know exactly the feeling you get just from starting them up and that is what driving is all about, not just the numbers and technical specifications but how the car makes you feel when you drive it and everyone likes different things. :)

It's gorgeous and sounds amazing! But doesn't it bother you a little that it's a 56 plate when you got it in 2016? I know the 16 plates aren't out yet but still :p

Looking forward to some videos of you giving it some! :D

Oh, and it NEEDS that little wing!!

Not at all, makes the car no different and the plate is temporary anyway already got my own plates ready to go on, just waiting for log book so I can do it online with DVLA. :)

Hi there

Nothing to excited but I changed my boot or should I say trunk and all interior lighting to LED based, which was mainly just the map reading lights, but now the car only has white/RGB leds throughout, hard to show in a picture but here goes:

IMG_5603.jpg

Wherever you see blue lights these are the stock RGB units from Ford where you can change to any colour you wish or adjust brightness. The LED lights I installed give a cleaner look and in the boot you can actually see more now as the LED's are obviously more powerful.

Next onto the clutch, as I've said several previous times the clutch is completely lacking any feel at all, it is very light and there is no biting point that I can feel. So it seems a very common thing in US to remove the clutch assist spring as it is just not me finding this issue but 100's of owners in the US who have all removed the spring. Here is a picture of the culprit:

IMG_5605.jpg

Took a minute to remove with no tools, push pedal to floor with one hand and with the other hand take a good grip and push to centre of car, it just comes off. The clutch is now heavier for sure but I can feel the biting point and it has made my pulling off and 1st-2nd gear change much smoother. So seems us UK owners need to do the same as US guys.

Would be nice if I could find an in the middle spring as now the clutch pedal is very heavy, if I could make it a little lighter, just a little with say a weaker spring would be great, but the car is for sure better without it, just means I will have an Arnold size leg in a years time. :D

I'm really rather surprised it didn't come with LED interior lights as standard; it's 2016! Just another sign that car manufacturers lag behind the times in many ways.

An oversight considering the car does have RGB led's in it however, but when it came to just single colour lights like map reading lights, glovebox, vanity mirrors and boot Ford just put regular bulbs in, the led's were like £10 so a cheap modification that gives a cleaner look with more light output.

the Mustang is a great car for sure, but it wont hold the road like an Evo, no Yank V8 will and not many European cars either, as for speed, it depends how powerful the Evo is ;)

as for which sounds best, nothing sounds as good as a Yank V8...FACT, and the more powerful it is, the better it sounds

i think all fast cars have bad images, but the worst are the Lambos and Vehrons, because these are driven by rich spoilt posers that love to be seen, especially those idiots in Park Lane etc !!!!

would i have a Mustang, yes, but i wanted the Hemi Shaker instead but couldn't afford to import it, but that's life.... what was the cost ? i forget now but it was something like 60K

No idea where this comparison came from, we were comparing EVO's to RS's and not other way round. As a capable road car the closest car I have driven to rivalling my EVO on the road especially in damp/wet conditions was the 911, other cars simply cannot compete, only Porsche really.

On a track it completely changes though and the 911, M3 are much quicker than the EVO was, the EVO would need a 100BHP advantage to stay ahead of them.

Anyway back on topic.

Drove to work this morning in race mode, wow very nice indeed and removing that clutch spring has made driving the car night and day better when it comes to the clutch and 1st/2nd gear changes, certainly something all should consider if your not getting on with the clutch and after all it only takes a minute and cost nothing.

Today was really the first time I really got on it, nearly full power in 2nd and full throttle in 3rd and 4th, car pulls incredible and the revs never die off unlike a lot of V8's it pulls hard and fast to 7000rpm limiter. Race mode vastly improves throttle response as well compared to normal and sport, it feels far less laggy and the car just seems to drive and handle more naturally, not tested how much slip angle one can get yet but even in normal mode the stability systems seem pretty dialled which is good, as DSC on in the M3 can kick in way before its actually needed.

The sound track is now perfect, cruising along is just a lovely V8 burble, its not loud, but makes itself known with a real nice deep melody, I think this car wins as the best sounding car I have owned yet as it is just so true american V8, I spent months looking at exhaust systems and changed my mind several times, so glad I got the Corsa Sport. :)

Sorry if you've mentioned this in the topic already, had a look but couldn't see.

What would you say is the absolute worst thing with the car? Curious really, since it looks perfect haha.

The clutch was horrible, thought I complained about it quite a lot in the thread to be honest. But since removing the assist spring which I posted about last night has vastly made it better, so its no longer such a complaint. :)

Let me drive the car more then I can really list the negatives, no matter how minor, I am still yet to truly push the car towards its limits yet.

But now I have sorted the clutch, I am thinking hard, but there is nothing I really hate or dislike about it, I am sure I will find minor niggles like the stock exhaust being too quiet, but I fixed that. :D

I'm not entirely sure Ford would agree with that!

Also, i'm myself not sure how you're driving like that considering that it's pretty icy out!

I hit rev limiter pretty much as soon as I got the car, note the day I collected car was dry and sunny. No Ice!

Ford also state there is no break in period and no running in period as such, not even a running in oil service, though I shall change the oil to a full synthetic at 1200 miles. :)

Regarding rear wing and bodywork: Are you planning on bolting on a load of different brands? Or are you going to be looking for kits that match?

I am doing no body work, all I will go for is a rear wing in future, nothing else, the car has beautiful lines and aero as standard, no need to change. :)

4500rpm limit i try on sub 1000mile cars.

Load it up to get the piston rings pushing to the wall, but those high spots on the rings to wall dont really appreciate the high speed of high revs.

#running in rules.

Many arguments for and against both, I am just giving it the odd blast with half throttle from time to time but typically driving in the 1500-4000rpm range as the engine has so much torque. Can be in 5th by 25mph and it just purrs. :)

What is the build quality like, to a euro car?

The interior is very nice and the materials are of nice quality and it is well put together inside. The the glove box light is the cheapest piece of junk I have ever seen.

Body panel allignment from factory is an issue on them, mine is actually pretty OK, the biggest issues seem to be rear screen allignment, mine is a little off but this seems an issue effecting many brands of cars and you typically never notice it unless looking. For me it beats the hell out of any Seat, Ford, Vauxhall which are euro cars and is more on parr with VW/Skoda stuff.

The chrome around the doors does not level up perfectly when doors are shut but again not something too noticable.

I assume that is what you mean by build quality, in generaly I am happy with mine as nothing is screaming Friday afternoon put together car to me.

The interior is a real nice place to be and well above any regular Ford, Astra I have being in, a lot more on par with VW/Skoda and base 3/5 series I would say. Its not the best but its a nice place with plenty of toys which are easy to access and use.

Overall every car has niggles and there are some, but then you simply cannot deny that at under 40k, for what you get it is one of the best motoring bargains going. :)

I still can't believe the price, 35k for that engine is crazy! For a brand new car

As soon as my son is a bit older, the Jag can become the family car and I'm getting one of these! :D

Please come to the meet Gibbo, pretty please :D I'd love a passenger ride, but I'd settle for hearing that noise in person

Where is this meet?

I think that's lovely Gibbo. Nice spec, presence and great power for the money, and your existing and planned mods only add to it.

I can't see any difference in the "decklid" though? It looks as if the edge is deeper in the 2nd pic but I can't see how, as the wings match up.

Why the offset front numberplate? I'm not a huge fan of that, even when there is a reason (such as with the Alfa GTA and the Evo's).

I edited my post, to show the original, so check it. ;)
Original decklid is a fake plastic gas filler cap with GT written on it. My new decklid is just a chrome running pony. :)

Number plates were temporary, final plates now on the car:-

IMG_5626.jpg

So the front plate is now removed and I am using a removable bracket that easily unlocks and locks into place so I can remove for shows etc. It is off at a slight angle though, will fix that tonight.

The rear plate not much change, just not wonky and a plainer looking plate with no dealer advertising on it and of course my private plate.

Looks so much better now! :)

The US spec cars have tri bar LED DRLs at the front next to the headlights. For some odd reason, they removed them on the Euro/UK Spec cars. So the fog lights are the DRLs :/.

This is correct!

But tonight I have fixed it:

IMG_5652.jpg

LED sidelight bulb and more powerful LED foglights. So the front lights are now all white.

The above image shows you the difference, left side is LED's and right side is halogens. :)

Not a fan of the square reg on the front, but I suppose it's ideal if you take it off a lot :)

The front looks mean with no plate though :D

Yeah my plate has accidental fall of the front and magically is in my boot. :D

Gibbo I assume you used Diode Dynamics switchbacks for the sidelights?

I was tempted to leave mind but seeing that comparison pic I think I'll have to do fogs and sides. Didn't realise they were so yellow.

Yes I got the switchback kit, put the clear LED sides in, work fine.
But the actual switchbacks which are indicator and side light in one, only indicator works and obviously then sounds the indicator out fast ticking noise inside, so I did not use these and just put amber halogens back in. Not so fussed because car looks good now and all white, just bear in mind you don't need to spend the $65 on switchbacks, just buy basic LED's for side lights which are typically around $10.

I will sell the switchbacks to someone in US for $50 to recoup my money.

The LED fogs are around 170 euro, I got them for 130 euro from a French forum member, they are 2400 lumen so same power as headlights, they also come with correct plugs for a direct plug and play water proof connection, so OEM. They are very powerful, no problems now with visibility at night and the car has no horrible yellow halogens any more. :)

These are the fogs:

Shame we don't get to see the US prices:

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/pricing/

No we actually get a much better deal....................

USA car with same options is $44,885, I paid £35,385 on the road.

So it really is very fair because if I imported the car myself it would cost me £41,679 landed in the UK and the steering wheel would still be on the wrong side.

A picture in the daylight with all LED lights in action. :)

Gibbo, do you use this as your everyday runabout (I use that term loosely) what's it like in everyday situations? traffic etc.

what sort of mpg does it give you and how much does it cost to fill?

Really boring questions to ask about such an exciting car I know but I'm curious! Apologies if you've already answered, I haven't read the entire thread.

Yes this is my daily, the M3 is now parked and will be used just a few times per month to keep it fresh. The car is a joy to drive at any speed, 10mph or 100mph, it is planted, secure and the most comfortable car I have ever driven, even more comfy than the Jaguar was. Suspension is amazingly well damped at low speeds and over bumps, at higher speeds it feels a bit jiggly/bouncy over rougher roads, a known issue with GT PP suspension, hence why I have the FRPP dampers at home. But for a daily commute it is spot on, glides over bumps in comfort, amazingly comfy seats, brilliant touchscreen system, great nav, great sound system, amazing heaters, lovely interior, you would not think it was a Ford.

The one thing I hated was the clutch, it had ZERO feel and was too light, really spoiled the car. But I whipped out the clutch assist spring and a night and day improvement, so now I shall find a weaker spring and put that back in as now the pedal is marginally to heavy. But if traffic was a major concern than buy the auto which means no clutch to operate.

Only city driving so far, 14-16mpg depending on how much loud pedal. However its a new engine and to my knowledge mpg improves as engines run in, but this is above my expectations, the 911 returned 16-18mpg on similar driving and the M3 20mpg.

Tank was down to 15 miles remaining today, filled the tank with Vpower at 109.90 per litre and was £59.01 so quite a small tank which will get me 150-180 miles of city driving. I did not buy a V8 for economy. :)
