NEC 24WMGX3

It's really hard to understand what you're trying to say in most of them sentences, all I can gather out of all that is that it isn't as good as the acer and not very good for games. I use the 24WMGX3 for quite a few games and I really think it's probably the best monitor I have had and definitely the best 24" monitor you can get.

Yeah, sounds like jarfin got one with a few bad pixels, had difficulty setting it up and so gave up on it (fairly angrily too by the sounds of it). I have to say that his experience isn't typical from what we're seeing everyone else say here and that tbh most of his comments should have been aimed to OcUK customer service, but since he's already got rid of it for an apparently 'better' Acer he's just really expressing his frustrations on us.

Before I made the desicion to buy I had done some fairly thorough research and read umpteen reviews etc, so that when the monitor arrived I had it set up and adjusted within minutes using settings provided by Baddass who had used a fairly expensive piece of tech to calibrate it, saving me both the expense and the effort. And if the settings I first used were not to my liking I had several other sets ready to test - all this info was easily found on the web (and indeed linked to in the stickies here).

I am gaming away happily on my lovely NEC, I have no blurring, no ghosting, no probs with colours. I am in fact very happy with it and the OcUK community and am sorry that jarfin has had such a seemingly bad experience but I cannot help but wonder how much of it was self-inflicted.

+1

I agree that the monitor is great for all purposes. It takes a fair bit of fiddling before you get settings you'll be happy with in games but it's worth it. I still haven't found settings that make me 100% happy but I think I'll leave it for a week or two more as I think I'm just used to a CRT and having my gamma up quite high :)

Ahhh kewl but this does mean i can get the full potential from a blu ray movie and that?

Yes, you'd get black bars top and bottom as has already been said, but the blacks on this monitor are so deep that they prob wouldn't be noticeable, and when using for desktop progs etc you'll get the full 1200pixel height which is so much better for apps.

There's two of them in B Grade apparently... it might be worth a quick webnote asking why, but for the money they are a steal!

There was 3 until I bought one today ;)

I sent a webnote, the reply I got is that they are either manufacturer's replacements or returns with items missing but they can't say which.

Manufacturer return I can live with, almost as good as new. Customer return with bits missing is a bit more tricky but NEC have such a good warranty it's worth a gamble IMO,

Just got my b - grade screen.

It's perfect. No scratches, no dead pixels, no sub pixels. No backlight bleed.

Screen is 3 months old so still 33 months warranty left.

Downside is that it is just the screen - no manual, no leads, no remote control.

So all depends whether you think it's worth £100 saved for loss of these itms and 3 months warranty.

Personally I think it is worth the £100 as I would never use the remote once the screen is set up, you can download the manual and I already had kettle and dvi leads coming out of my ears!

Overall, I'm chuffed to bits.

The only "fault" I can find if you call it that, is that the screen is not as bright as my old 20wgx2 but that's easily altered.

Anyway I am going to drop NEC an email and ask if they will supply a remote since they are normally so superb. Never hurts in asking ;)

Sounds good Greebo, I had read about NEC's service being top class too so hopefully you'll be ok. I do use the remote as my missus' pc is also connected via D-Sub and it's just so much easier to switch using the remote - also using the OSD is great with the remote as the menu button is a bit fiddly.

Hmm, now tempted to get another for a dual screen setup but suspect she'd kick me where it hurts!

Typing this and looking at this baby right now.. :D

I'm very pleased with this monitor, it is amazing. I have OcUK to thank though. They have been really kind I think. I originally chose and paid for the Dell 24", coz I wasn't so sure at the time, just wanted a good 24" monitor, then I found out about this one and it had more positive reviews and far fewer negatives... I contacted OcUK and they were willing to swap it for me!

I'm loving it, it huge and dominates my desk top! web browsing, games and movies...they all look amazing on it.

I have to admit, it wasn't cheap, but I think the price for it has gone down a wee bit since I bought it. Don't think OcUK has anymore in stock though.

Discontinued before I could save the pennies to get one to replace my LCD20WGX2 :(

now the only options are the HP and the Dell....the HP looks dull (although at least you can replace the stand) and the Dell has apparently got plenty of issues. The new Phillips looks interesting.

There is such a lack of quality IPS or VA monitors at the 24" size (especially in the ~£400 price range), seems everyone is happy to have a TN panel...well I certainly am not!! And when something is released it seems to be 16:9 ratio...I like having the extra space, I can deal with a slightly bigger black bar on a movie.

Even the NEC 2490WUXi has disappeared after a brief appearance on OcUK...what's going on?

and did Hazro go bust? lol
